I'm looking for a cheap-ish laptop to lug out in the field with my radio and a friend pointed me at some sweet used Thinkpad deals. Here's what I'm looking at, basically a T60p with the config of:

    T7400(2.16GHz),
    2GB RAM,
    100GB 7200rpm HD,
    15.4in 1680x1050 LCD,
    256MB ATI FireGL V5250,
    CDRW/DVD,
Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Sounds like a good XP box to me. The only thing that's held me up from ordering it is that my friend (same friend who pointed me at the deal) said he had a T60p briefly at work before getting a T61 and he barely got 3 hours out of the battery, and he thinks he had the 9 cell. And looking through the forums here and on the web I see conflicting reports.

So has anyone on here had a similar config in the past and can tell me what kind of battery life I could see on XP with a new battery? Thanks!

Much is going to depend on the settings like the screen brightness, CPU power state and whether the WiFi is on. I think between four and five hours with medium settings is probably what you'll get from a new battery. I'd ask if battery life is your goal, why get a notebooks with a big screen and a battery draining GPU?

Battery life isn't my only goal.

As for this configuration...I'm shopping from laptops coming off of leases, so I don't have a lot of say. This was one from the list that seemed like a good deal.
