I sent in my NEW ThinkPad for repair a week after I got it, and they returned it a month and over 20 phone calls later, with no hard drive cover. After 6 phone calls and two weeks later they sent me the wrong type of cover.

Is it wise for me to be using my laptop without the cover, or is it not that important?

PS: Lenovo's tech support actually tried to trick me by giving me 3 numbers that have nothing to do with them, including one residential number. After more than 2 months of Hell with Lenovo, I can promise I will never buy from them again.

Its not too important if the laptop is kept on a nice surface, but carrying it around in a backpack will mean the HD will try to come loose. This may damage the SATA/Power connector over time.
