Hey, I have this notebook since about one year and since about half a year the wireless is incredibly weak (where others have excellent signal, mine barely exists) in university libraries etc. where everyone can use wireless in every place of the building my wireless will just be able to catch a signal which it will continuesly loose.
Another problem: The fan, my laptop just loves to hibernate, and gets hot really quick as well. Now I have fromated the computer myself quite often and went to computer repair stores to let them format it, but the problem always remains.
I CANNOT send it to IBM as this is a US machine and when I called them in britain they said I would have to send it to someone in the US and they will pick it up there...
So, how can I fix these problems? I think I would need a new fan and new wireless adapter. But I have no idea which adapters would work on this notebook and I do not know a company that deals with IBM's within the UK....
Thanks in advance

You stated you've formatted it many times, after formatting have you installed the appropriate intel chipset, power manager drivers and power manager? This may help with your fan issues. If it isn't a software issue you may need a new fan, but usually there is a fan error on start up when a fan is not working properly.

Yes, I know I will need a new fan and new wireless card, I tried so much with software stuff. But how do I know whether a fan or wireless card will work in my laptop?

There are two different problems. If it is the correct part then by definition it will fit and work.

- what is your wireless card
- what wireless card driver version are you using
- What is your Operating System
- Are you using the OS or Access Connections to manage wireless connections. If Access Connections, what version.
- when you say you've formated, do you mean you've used the hidden partition or recovery disks to return the harddrive to the factory state, or that you used an XP installation disk to do a clean instal of the XP operating system?
But if your certain you need new hardware, fan and wifi card, you can still call Lenovo UK and speak to their technical support or order parts from them. You can also post in the Lenovo forums and Lenovo's support page.
