My new T60p seems to be hitting a snag on start-up when it gets to "checking the status of the embedded security chip." I don't have the fingerprint reader, and the chip is activated.

It doesn't hang up, it just delays on this step for upwards of 30 sec. to 1 min., then moves on to the security log-in step.

It hasn't done this every time - any ideas on what it might be?

    Thanks.

Do you have a firewall? When I installed ZoneAlarm 7, my T60 didn't pass the "checking status of the security chip" screen anymore and I had to reinstall Windows.

Disable the fingerprint security since you don't have a finger print reader. Your comp is looking for it cause you have it enabled.

That's what I thought at first, but I haven't been able to find anywhere that the fingerprint security feature is active (it appears disabled in the security settings).

Only the one that comes loaded with Symantec; it hasn't seemed to have have been a complete problem.

Do you use CSS for anything?

Uninstall it if you don't. Problem goes away.
