I just purchased a retail version of Winows 7 professional 64bit. I am planning on doing a fresh Windows 7 install on my T60p.

My question is, how do I install the Thinkvantage software after the fresh Windows 7 install? Do I just insall the system update? Or do I need to install anything else? What about rescue and recovery? And will the Thinkvantage button and all the fn buttons work after the fresh insall? Is there a step by step guide?

    Thank you

It has the T7600. I think the CPU can handle 64bit operating systems. But the motherboard is only restricted to recognizing only 3gb of RAM even with a 64bit OS.

If you're restricted to 3GB of RAM, there's really no reason to run 64-bit Windows. 32-bit will address the entire amount of RAM you have.

It's not only the additional CPU space. If it has memory, one can expect a speed increase of almost 10%.

On the safe side it's best to download a few drivers on an USB stick just in case Windows 7 does not recognise some of your devices natively. You only need a few, I tend to download just the graphics drivers and the network driver (wireless driver). Though your system being a T60p, most likely Windows 7 will be able to take care most of them for you by default.

To save time also download the Lenovo System Update utility on to a USB stick so it can download the other drivers and Thinkvantage applications that you may need. You don't need to install all the Thinkvantage utilities as you can be selective. I personally just use the Power Manager and Hotkeys which is all I need, though if you want to get the blue Thinkvantage button working you need the Lenovo Toolbox which is provided by the System Update.
