So, at some point in the near future, I'd like to get a new Thinkpad, and these are some models I was looking at.
First off, what I'd really like is a widescreen version of the T60p. I was wondering what are some differences between the T60ws and the Z61p in terms of form-factor, etc. I like the T series because they're sleek and compact, I don't know how bulky the Z61p is.
Resolution is very important to me. On the T60ws, the WSXGA+ screen is very nice, and the Z61p's WUXGA screen is simply amazing. This is the main reason I'd be disappointed if the Z61p is a bit bulkier than the T series, as I would love to have that screen. It's a shame there's no 1600x1200 display on the T60's anymore.
Next, I'm a Linux user, so has anyone here used the latest FGLRX drivers on a newer-series ATI card? I don't need great performance under Linux, but as along as the driver functions good enough for simple desktop usage, I'm happy.
Finally, if I get a new laptop, I think I'm going to leave Windows XP (or install it if they start preloading Vista) on a partition and dual boot for some casual gaming. Now, my current card, 32mb Radeon 9000, is ok at a fair number of games if I turn the detail and resolution down. I know that the Fire GL card is not meant for gaming, but about how would I expect it to perform. Also, about what would I expect to get out of the X1400 card? I guess what I'm asking here is as far as gaming goes, which of these cards would be the best choice: Fire GL V5200 256mb (Z61p), Fire GL V5250 256mb (T60p), or Radeon X1400 128mb (T60).
come to think of it, why doesn't Lenovo seem to keep the Z series as well updated as the T? I'm noticing that the T60p has an updated video card.
Anyways, I know I asked a lot, but if you have answers or advice relating to any of this, I appreciate the response.
Thanks,
Zach
