    Hi i'm looking to buy 1 x 4gb ram for my T61 PC2-5300 667Mhz DDR2,
over here in rip off UK...the cheapest i can find is about £70-100 for 1 x4gb which equates to $108 to $154.
Is there a cheaper way, i.e cld i buy some modern better spec ram which is cheaper? Is it backwards compatible?? that would save some money??
I'm sure i heard here somewhere that if i had a 6300 800Mhz..the laptop just clocks it down to suit.

Any links to shops would be great! Thanks

That price sounds about right for a single stick of 4GB DDR2 RAM. DDR2 prices are now higher than DDR3 prices (single 4GB stick of DDR3 can get down to $50 if you're lucky), so you can expect to pay that price regardless of whether you're in the US or UK.

No, DDR3 is not backwards compatible with DDR2 - the keys (slots) of the DDR3 stick don't match up with the DDR2 stick.

god, there's no value of depreciation on ram, thats for sure. Defintely like a work of art, good investment. Might put a couple of old sticks in a bank vault and sell em in 5 yrs.
    O.k thanks fellas.

mixing ram is okay, but some 800 mhz 4 gigs ram may not work correctly.
