Picked up a 14" T61 cheap fixer-upper from school surplus a few days ago, and so far the only thing that is wrong with it is the CPU fan, which I've already ordered. I've got a spare 15" board that had an updated, non-defective GPU, and I was thinking of trying to swap boards, since the 14" machine has a NVIDIA GPU board that might be defective (but still works). I'd like to have a non-defective GPU in this machine, rather than a ticking timebomb of a board.

Would a 15" model logic board work in a 14" shell? I'm assuming yes, since the boards are attached to different magnesium cages of different sizes. The 15" board might be able to fit inside the 14" cage with no issue. I know that a 15" T60 board works just fine in a 14" T60 body, but the cages are different.

Are they both the widescreen models? I'm not entirely certain, but you can compare the pictures shown in the Hardware Maintenance Manuals.

    Yes, they're both widescreen.

    No, it can't be done.

Unfortunately, all three sizes that T61/p was available in carried a physically different planar.
