When I first got the laptop Access connections would start, it was a little slow and would kind of freeze at times which bugged me but now it won't start at all... I try and open it and a screen pops up with the Access Connections logo but it never goes away and loads the access connections control panel anymore... it just stays like that... I have left it for hours and still no difference.

Should I reformat or go back to factory settings? If so how do I do that?(factory settings that is) - and if I do will I lose the thinkvantage suite or anything? I don't care about my software I currently have installed, I can back that up, but I don't want to lose any of the factory software such as ThinKVantage/access connections.

    Please advise!

Do you have AVG installed? If so try uninstalling AVG and then restarting.

I had the same problem and uninstalled it after reading some other posts here and everything went back to normal.

I have yet to reinstall a virus program, does 8 have the same problem as this? I believe I was using 7.5.something.something?

Avast! is another AV software that's pretty good and free *supports 64-bit too*

I uninstalled AVG but Access Connections still does not work... any other ideas? BTW I recently updated the Access Connections by downloading the updates through Thinkvantage updates and come to think of it, that was about the same time it stopped working... do you think the latest update could be faulty?

That's a possibility. Try and downgrade back to the previous version.

I couldn't figure out how to do that... how would I go about rolling back the update?

make sure you have all the prerequisites installed when you update Access Connections. They are listed in the instructions for installing Access Connections. I think I had to update wireless drivers first.

Try turning off UAC if you have Vista. These new securities are a nice try by Microsoft to protect users, but in its current state, it seems quite buggy. You could be amazed how much issues turning this off will solve. AVG 8 free was crashing IE7 on my system. Now everything is fine. It's not necessarily Microsoft fault. Unfortunately, some third party developers seems to not correctly follow new Vista rules so we end up with lots of troubles.
