    Hello,

I've been away from this web site for a while, well, I'm back, with a problem IBM's tech support in Georgia couldn't figure out...

After receiving a new T61 for less then 48 hrs, I realized my lappy's windows vista has a problem with the Intel Flash Cache Logic chip (Turbo Memory) installed in the machine. Per Windows Device Manager, under Device Status, it indicates that "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Windows readyboost and readydrive can not be activated.

The correct drive is installed, I've tried both drivers from Intel and IBM/Lenovo site.

    The problem wont get fixed.

any assistance in subject matter would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Anyone has seen this problem before, or do I need to send it back for repairs..?

I would call Lenovo and tell them what's your experiencing. I _think_ that the Turbo Boost chip plugs into the mini pci slot. If that's the case, they may just have you remove it and send it back to them once your replacement arrives. I'd avoid sending the whole machine in if I could help it.

I'm having the same problem right now. I don't think it is the chip that is broken however. I received my notebook 2 days ago. The first time I installed Vista, the turbo memory chip worked just fine. I reinstalled it yesterday, and now I am getting the same error as you. Things to check: Is your hard drive in "compatibility" mode within the bios? I don't know if it was that or something else that I installed differently this time that messed it up.

Anyone find a solution to this problem yet? Got my T61 today and i'm noticing hte same thing. If I disable and reenable it then it will work, but not as a restarted computer.

This is a driver error. Make sure that you have the latest most up to date drivers for the memory cache chip.

goto start, programs, thinkvantage, system update 3. run the program and this should get you up to date.

Maybe I am out of the loop, but I attempted an update just now and I am getting this error. Here are the details on the 'driver information' it gives me for it

    Driver Provider: Intel
    Driver Date: 5/4/2007
    Driver Version: 1.0.1.1004

Can someone else with that driver let me know if theirs works... or how to get the newer one, I suppose.

I too had problems in getting the Turbo Memory to work properly (device manager indicated a device failure). I downloaded a new driver from Intel directly at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2813

I had to tell the installer to override the existing driver (which it said had a later date); however, the version number of the new driver is 1.0.0.1082 which is higher than what came pre-installed. Once I did that and rebooted, everything in device manager was fine. Good luck.

i had the same problem too. this is how i fixed it:

in BIOS, make sure the SATA configuration is set to "AHCI" (or something like that) instead of Compatibility mode. i had this problem because when i reinstalled Windows XP i changed it to compatibility mode. however after installing Vista back, this driver cannot start. therefore i changed it back to AHCI and reinstalled Vista and everything works fine.

    hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys, but unfortunately, I've already sent the notebook to IBM for repairs.. I guess you can imagine I'm smashing my head on the table right now...

    yeah...
