How can I find my panel manufacturer? Sorry if this info is listed in another thread.
-
download pc wizard (google it), look at the video section, and on the display manufacturer list, there is a code. you can google that and it will come up as either samsung or LG. i think the lg one has 'LG' in the code, not sure about the samsung...
-
You could download PCMARK or Everest, and they both will tell you the part number your screen is, and it will let you know which one you have.

go to device manager (start/mycomputer(rightclick)/properties/hardware/devicemanager).
double click monitors.
double click your monitor (probably says plug and play monitor).
click on details.
click on drop down menu, select hardware ids.
it will say monitor\something.
mine says monitor\CMO1520, for instance... it is a chi mei.
you don't need to install a program to do this. these instructions are for XP, i think vista is the same, or similar.
an lg model will typically say lpfl and then some other stuff, like lpfl300.
a samsung model will start with sec, as in sec3350.
note that there is great controversy over whether sec is really samsung- but doesn't really matter what it is- you just want to know if you have lg or not!
let me know how this works out for you. -
In Vista this doesn't appear to work double clicking on it, or clicking on properties, and scrolling down on the drop down from details doesn't give you the info you show above.
-
here are some instructions from another post...
i suggest
settings----control panel----system------device manager-----monitors
if the manufacturer column is blank
click the the tab---- details and select hardware ids in the drop down box
ull get sumthing like----monitor/....
google this and youll find the scrreen name and the manufacturer along with more info

Why is LG better than Samsung?
-
Manufacturer : LTN141WD-L05
Product ID : LEN4033
Manufacturer : Samsung -
well, there are some pretty nice samsung displays out there, so don't despair. i had a couple sec3350 screens, and they were not good. my current cmo1520 is pretty good, but a bit grainy. it seems most people like their lg screens, but lcd preference is partially subjective, so if you like your screen- just enjoy it. i have personally been a bit disappointed with both the screen on my 1520 (returned), and my current sager 2090.

Interesting that they use stock tickers as parts abbreviations. CMO=Chi Mei
AUO= AU Optronics LPL= LG Phillips and SEC = Samsung. I think there is no debate on whether SEC is Samung. I am using an LPL 14" widescreen WXGA on a Dell. Screen is OK. Not as vibrant as my 5 year old Toshiba and some light bleeding on the bottom. ITs my work lappy and frankly I dont give a hoot as long as it displays. HAve not checked out my T61 yet. -
Sorry instructions still don't work under Vista. I suggest you download Everest or the other program suggested. I know 000111's suggestion works with the DELLs, but on the thinkpads in Vista you get Monitor\IBM2887 under Hardware ID's as suggested by the other poster.

haha. stock tickers! sweet, never noticed that.
all manufacturers have good and bad lcds... OP, if you like your display, don't sweat it. next time i buy a laptop i will have to see it first. -
mine says LEN4022
it's 14" 4:3 with 1400x1050 resolution. Now I don't know who made it, but it looks pretty good for a laptop.
So, IMO, as far as you like your display then why worry ... -
If brightness is the factor that makes the LG better than Samsung, then I'm perfectly happy with with the Samsung. This thing is actually too bright.
Since they're both TN panels, then I doubt LG > Samsung by much. I had my panel modified/repolarized to a glossy screen (like Dell TrueLife). That took care of the poor viewing angles and increased the contrast levels. Overall, it made the panel MUCH easier to deal with... aside from the typical difficulties of reflections, but since I use my laptop indoors with ideal lighting 99% of the time, I benefit from the glossy panel.
For those interested in "upgrading" your panel to glossy, give ScreenTek a call. You can find them through google. -
How much did you pay for that rxblitzrx?
-
The glossy "modification" is $100 plus shipping (and tax if you live in Texas). I live in Houston so I was able to personally take mine down there. The turn-around time is very fast, 24-48 hours, to ship back to you.
Google "ScreenTek" to find their website and you can get more info there. -
Thank you.
