    Hey,

I've bought 4 GB RAM and tried to utilize the PAE setting in order to get all of my RAM working. Alas, it didn't work out. Vista still announces only 3.06 GB.

Is there any other way how to do it except putting up 64b Vista? Is my conclusion true that PAE does not work on T61's?

    Thanx

PAE does not allow for all 4GB, it isn't meant for that. PAE is only used to enable XD protection in processors.

You need 64b to get 4GB.

Vista 32bit = 3 gb max. Install sp 1 when its out, then it will show 4gb although you can only use 3gb.

kelt, why don't you want to install a 64-bit version of Windows?

    Ace,

that'd mean a clean install.... maybe when I've got enough time.

    Thank you all

PAE does allow addressing 4 gb - that is its primary purpose - Physical Address Extension (to 36 bits from 32 bits). It also allows XD protection. Microsoft decided not to allow PAE (which is Intel software/drivers) to function on any of its kernels, except Server 2000 and 2003, because that is part of its long range marketing plan for 64 bit OS. The XD part will install and work on XP, but only with the appropriate Intel chipsets.
