    Hi,

    I've got a T61 running Windows XP.

As a Domain User, when I press Fn+F3 to bring up the Power Manager menu then click Power off display it doesn't do anything. Do others have the same problem? For some reason if I add it as a quick link to the productivity center it works. Though I'd rather control it through the Fn+F3 method.

If I go through the programs menu and do a Run-As admin it'll work but that's a pain to do when I just want a quick way to turn off the display.

    Any one have any ideas?

(New to the T61 and so far my first impressions are not good, there are various other 'issues' with it that put me off)

make sure "on-screen message handler" (an on-screen display service by lenovo) is started everytime windows boots up.

How can I check for the presence of that? Does it run as a service? Do you know what the process is called so I can check for it in TaskManager?

I believe there's a setting when you open up power manager. It's at the bottom of the window called FN + F3 settings. Click that and set it to power off display when you hit that combination.

I've tried chaning that setting so that Fn+F3 will power of the display, that also doesn't work.

So is there some service that needs to run to allow normal users to power off the display?

you need to change the settings in the power managment
