    Hi all,

My T61 crapped out on me, the GPU/Mobo has failed and I would like to replace it rather than buy a new laptop.

I am wondering what compatibility issues I may need to think about when buying a replacement part. I don't want to get the integrated video as I dont want my performance to take a step backwards. Otherwise, just about any T61 mobo should work right?

    Thanks!

Thx, I have just been reading about this.

One potential problem that I may have is the serial number is gone. I had three stickers on the bottom when I got it. The windows product key is in bad shape, but visable. The other two white stickers - the small thin one fell off and the thicker one is completely faded so that no characters are visible. Hopefully this doesnt prevent me from getting the fix.

edit - is it possible that the Serial Number is printed anywhere else inside the machine?

The serial number should be recorded in the BIOS. When you turn on the machine with the ThinkPad logo keep pressing F1 until it enters the BIOS, from there it should give you the product ID and serial number together. (e.g. 7661CTOA1B2345: 7661CTO = Product ID / A1 B2345 = Serial ID).

I would advise to try again and hope for a different rep who's more understanding to your situation, you do sometimes get a rep who's unwilling to help while others are more proactive. If the situation seem to be stalling you can try contacting "Mark@Lenovo" on the Lenovo forum to see if he can offer assistance for you.

    Sweet!

I just called back, this time I made sure to reference the "MIGR-75087" document that was described in your links. No hassles this time, and they said they are sending me a box to ship it back in tomorrow!

BTW, my warranty expired back in 2008.

Im pretty stoked about this, thx for the advice. I will update when I get my laptop back.

I thought Lenovo would fix the issue until March of 2011?

Coverage for support ends on March 31, 2011 so looks like it just made it in time!
