    Hi guys,

My gf's T61 (UK) just arrived, pretty much the same as mine, anyway, out of hte box it came, plugged it into the AC power, turn it on... once i got into Windows i realised the Trackpad (and the nipple) didnt work... odd, i tried Fn + F8 ( i tihnk it was) to try turn on the trackpad and it said UltraNav driver wasnt installed....

Is this the reason the trackpad isnt working?? is it broken?? Any help wud be great guys or shes going to end up using mine!! LOL

    Cheers Guys,
    Will

I don't think so. Windows should recognize them as generic devices.

Could it be loose or something? The keyboard works OK, and the fingerprint scanner appears to work OK.... just not the damn trackpad and nipple bit in the middle...

Call up IBM, they will send you a brand new keyboard.

No I don't think it's common at all. At least, I've never read a thread about this exact problem. I do know that IBM will pretty much overnight you a brand new keyboard with limited questions asked.

I just deployed 450 T61 laptops and we have had an extremely abnormal number of keyboard and touchpad issues. Very un-Thinkpad like.

No, the trackpad is on the palmrest, which is separate from the keyboard.

you should try to download and reinstall the drivers to see if that solves the problem.

dude, the trackpad has nothing to do with the keyboard, if they send anything, it'll be a new palm rest with the touchpad attached.

the touchpad sucks anyway, true thinkpadders use the thinkStick =)
I've had mine disabled. you can probably reenable through the think vantage utilities.

Any luck? What they said? HW issue?

    I have similar problem.
After using T61 for a month or so, my TrackPoint stoped working after hybernate. Week later after hybernate TouchPad did the same. But after removing UltraNav device from Vista device manager it was working for a week. Now it is totally dead.

When I press Fn-F8 it says that UtraNav driver is not installed.
I tried to download one and install it manually - same sh...

It is no problem to return T61 - problem is that I will have to do all SW installs for a new one and vaste lots of time.

IBM offered to repair it for me, but they said as it was DOA they would recommend me sending it back for a replacement....

Been running new one for a couple months now and i love it :)

After two hours of woodoo with Vista device manager, drivers and ThinkVantage configs, touch pad is back (maybe temporary). TrackPoint is still unavailable.
I gues it is not HW but SW issue. MS Vista brings me looooot of "surprises". Possible it is one of these.

    Anyway, thanks for answering

well i recently rebuilt my T61 after i got sick to death with BSOD and other issues, i installed Vista Ultimate, Intel Drivers, Intel Matrix Driver and NOTHING ELSE! Ran Windows Update and got everything off there, it even picks up IBM interface drivers.... I also disabled the fingerprint scanner as i dont bother using that...

My laptop is rock solid now! I dont trust IBM software one bit!
