Anyone else with Vista experiencing the computer freezing up on occasion? I use my PC virtually all day (business) and I'm finding myself rebooting about 4 to 5 times daily.
Has only begun happening the past couple weeks which makes me think it may be linked to a recent update.
Also, seems to be prevalent when working in Office 2007.
Anyone else?

Scan for viruses and spyware, you can use the free programs like Spybot and HiJack This. No operating system or its updates should crash a computer mulitple times on a daily basis.
-
How long do you wait to see if this "freeze" clears? I had a similar problem early on with Vista (not on T61p, just when Vista was first released) and Office 2007 (usually in Outlook) and it turned out to be older SATA drivers.Tho usually if I waited for a minute or two it would clear on its own.

Have scanned for spyware with two programs (Search & Destroy and Ad Aware). No luck there. Also scanned for viruses with AVG.
I have probably waited at most one minute before rebooting. I was very convinced until the last day or so that it was some incompatibility between old Word files and new Word files (as it seemed to happen when editing files I transferred over from my old computer). But today, a few times, it has happened while not in Word.
According to ThinkVantage, my drivers are all up to date but I'll check with www.driveragent.com. Very strange and too bad cuz PC was running GREAT for the first three weeks before this. -
I had the exact same problem with the t61p. Apparently, it was the SATA drivers. Downloading the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager seems to have stopped the freezes so far.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try this out and report back.

Good news, bad news.
PC has only frozen once since updating the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. But the fact that it happened when I was printing means I think this may be related to HP XP printer drivers (they have yet to make the drivers for Vista for the 1000 series LJ). -
The freeze up has happened twice to me, both times as I was moving it to it's final resting place and plugging it in for the night. Is this the Intel update that you used:

yes I have turbo memory and it is enabled

ok...i can solve your problem
this is what you need to do
install the latest drivers
4. Intel Turbo Memory Driver v1.1.0.1010 (8/2/2007)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2813&DwnldID=13805&lang=eng
5. Intel Matrix Storage Manager v7.6.0.1011 (8/2/2007)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...OSs=164&OSFullName=Windows Vista* 32&lang=eng
ignore any prompts that say you may be installing drivers older than what is currently installed
install the matrix storage driver after the turbo driver WITHOUT restarting. (the turbo memory already installs a matrix driver, but for some idiotic reason by intel, it is the old one)
restart your computer
then go to [Control Panel]->[Power Options]->[Change plan settings]->[Change advanced power settings]->[Hard disk]->[Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Savings Mode].
disable the Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Saving option
wallah! you're good to go
please keep me updated on how this works for you....i had the SAME problems and this solved everything..it has been a week or so since no freeze or bsod or any sleep hibernate issues -
omg thankyou so much...after turning off the windows hybrid hard disk power saving thing... my computer hasn't had a problem for 3 hrs straight! hopeuflly this is the cure to the problem

Thanks for your help, I'm going to give it a go after I prove that my problem isn't caused by Firefox.... seems it happens only when I'm running it... gone back to IE to see if perhaps that's my issue

Hello. Does anyone know what an equivalent fix would be for a T61 model 6460-7EU, Intel T7300, 2Gb RAM, with WinXP Pro SP2 preinstalled? I've reviewed many of the posts, but they all seem to be regarding settings within Vista. I can't find any mention of Turbo Boost or Hybrid Hard Disk settings on my T61, so I assume they are settings specific to Vista. Any suggestions for something to try in XP? Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was hoping that it wouldn't come to that, that there might be some option or feature that I could disable, but it is certainly an option. Thank you again.

eyecon82.... your fix seems to have worked.... thanks very much

Thanks for reporting back to us. I am glad to hear that it has helped fix your problems! -
"I had a similar problem early on with Vista (not on T61p, just when Vista was first released) and Office 2007 (usually in Outlook) and it turned out to be older SATA drivers."
I agree that you were using Vista, but Vista was not the problem, it was the drivers you replaced. -
Thanks.. Following this instruction worked for me. It has been over two days and no lockup.
Thanks again... -

Has there been any progress on a fix for this? My new T61p also suffers from the same issue. Fortunately, turning off Hybrid Disk Power Saver Mode cured my problem. Still, I'd like to know if there is a proper fix for this issue that now allows for full functionality.

maybe vista sp1...anyone tried it yet?
-
I'd be curious to know as well whether Vista SP1 cures these problems. I'd like to turn on Hyrbid Disk Power Saver again as I do alot of work on battery power.

you said you were not facing issue in first couple of week. have u add extra memory in T61 other than IBM or lenovo. may be that is causing the problem. try after removing that . i heard something like that.
