Here is some more comparison pictures of the T61 14" SXGA+ screen, this is the screen by TMD. Behind the T61 is a SONY LCD, as far as I am concerned this SONY is a pretty nice LCD and a very unfair comparison for the TMD SXGA+, but you draw your own opinions:

These were taken in a room with a bright white lamp focusing down on the laptop keyboard (not on the screen)

Is that amount of leakage normal for a 14" thinkpad SXGA+?

Braddd, how many notches of brightness can you adjust on your new TP? The WXGA+ displays (I think) have 15, whereas the older T60's only have 7.

Is the nit rating 200, as with the WXGA+ displays?

So how bright is the screen at the max setting?

I dont think its his camera. There is definately a bluish look to the smaller screen.

Compare the FF frame...where it 'should' be grey.

You probally just need to use software like spyder to fix the issue.

Its the camera, it really brought out the blues, there is no bluish tint on the screen, infact I'd say there is a little too much red. The weird blues you see on the SXGA screen were added in by my 1.6megapixel floppy disk Digital cam.

    You sure it's the camera?

I have a two-week old T61p SXGA+, and the screen (uncorrected) looks pretty much identical to what you picture... very noticeable blue cast.

I got an Eye-One Display 2 and did correction, and it looks much, much better -- the Firefox pane, for example, is now grey, not blue.

But is this normal? Should customers really have to shell out $ for monitor calibration to get decently accurate colors? I mean, uncorrected the display is fairly eggregiously off.

Anyone else experiencing off color reproduction with a relatively new SXGA+?

yes I ran some calibration software and it does look less blue now. As far as I can remember though, when taking those pictures that cyan type blue was no where to be seen.

Thats quite some backlight bleeding. My 14" SXGA+ for T42 did not have it that bad.

It's like we have any choice now.
Lenovo is the only remaining source of the 14" notebooks in the standard aspect ratio.

i like the 15.4" t61p screen. top notch.

I think it is the camera's fault. 1.6 mp won't do anything good.

i will try to take some with canon 5 mp.

but how can i load picture up here

Maybe I'm missing something but the backlight bleeding you see in the pics above doesn't really seem to cause me much annoyance. Meh, to each their own.

whoiss, I'm not sure there's much point comparing a 15.4" t61p WS to a 14.1" standard screen (in this thread anyway.)

And, it's not really that useful a comparison. After all, it's well known those particular screens can be good.

Glad though you have a good screen.

To the OP - if you're happy with your screen, and you seem to be, I wouldn't overly worry re comments as to perceived backlight bleed, etc, etc. That's the biggest problem with these posts and threads - they can sour you on your purchase very quickly, if you're not careful.

    edit:

Okay, for some reason, I've just now transformed from a notebook guru into a notebook geek, even though technically, I still don't actually own a notebook.
