I just ordered a T61 with the 1400x1050 standard screen. About how long have those been taking to ship? Lenovo says 10/22.

The SXGA+ screens ship fairly quickly. I got mine within a week after ordering. Note: thats the time it took from ordering online till it was sitting on my doorstep.

I just ordered a T61 SXGA+ for a friend and it alsos says 10/22 also. My own T61 SXGA+ took 5 days from the order date before it shipped. That was in early Sept. What specs did u get?

2.0 Core 2 Duo T7300, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, DVD-RW, 9 cell battery.

Not sure how it impacts Lenovo but much of China was off this week on holiday.

Noticed something interesting in the extremely verbose parts list when I used the IBM order status instead of Lenovo:
42X5602 1 SBB MS XP PROF. US ENG.RCD
Does this mean I actually got XP Pro CDs as well as part of the downgrade thing? I ordered Vista Business and planned to eventually request a set. -

Why didnt you get the widescreen?
-
1. It serves little purpose except for watching wide screen movies.
2. You end up with a shorter, lighter laptop.
3. Documents, webpages, emails, look like they should. -
-
1. I have a widescreen and almost never watch movies. I do a lot of programming and often I need to work in 2 windows simultaneously. This gives me more room to put 2 windows side by side.
2. The bigger anything is, the more it will weigh.
3. Documents, webpages and emails look correct in widescreen. Unlike a widescreen TV that is set to stretch a 4:3 picture, a computer doesn't stretch, it just gives you more room. Webpages that have their widths set in pixels, will always look the same regardless of the screen width. 800 pixels is 800 pixels regardless of screen width. -
I just don't like reading/typing WIDE documents, I'd rather read them like I would on a piece of paper.
Also with the 14" widescreen T61 you loose some of the height of the screen, and the 14" standard has more pixels then the 14" wide. -
For those of you debating between HP and Lenovo, I have both.
HPs are like cheap plastic toys that you buy for a quater of of the gumball machine compared to thinkpads.
HPs customer service (after you buy) is in India. The service is AWFUL. Here is how my conversation with them wen down when my DVD-RW stopped working.
Me: Hi, my DVD-RW stopped working.
HP: Ok sir, I understand that your DVD-RW stopped working.
Me: Yes.
HP: Thank you for confirming that your DVD-RW stopped working.
He lead me thru a long list of basic stuff that he was reading out of a book in order to make sure that it wasn't working. He didn't really know how to diagnose it himself. After about an hour of long conversation, he tells me that I have to call another number. I called and went thru the same loooong boring conversation for another hour until I just hung up on him, and said to myself,"big deal, I never use the DVD-RW anyway."
A week later I get a call from one of HPs people in India like this:
HP: Hello sir, I am calling to see how is your DVD-RW doing today.
Me: It isn't human, and it didn't heal on its own. I hung up.
A week later I got the same call again. Finally, I decided to try again, and I got someone a little smarter. Took almost 2 hours, but he told me that they would mail me a new DVD-RW and I should send them the old one back.
I haven't dealt nearly as much with Lenovo because my thinkpad hasn't given me any trouble. But when I have spoken with them, it was someone in the US with a head on their shoulders.
Also, be very careful of HP's sales reps. They will tell you that the laptop can take you to the moon just to sell it to you. When I bought mine, I asked them about a few features and they said yes yes of course it has it. Of course it didn't have it.
HP is low end quality and they target people looking for low priced laptops. To the eye, their laptops probably look the sexiest, but that's about it. Thinkpad's are a zillion times better.
T61 14" standard lead time?
