    i am little in doubt about 14 and 15 specs.
    there are ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=migr-67883 ) :

    For systems with 358.1-mm (14.1-in) TFT display:
    * Width: 358.1 mm (14.1 in) to 314 mm (12.4 in)
    * Depth: 358.1 mm (14.1 in) to 260 mm (10.2 in)
    * Height: 26.6 to 31 mm (1.0 to 1.2 in)

    For systems with 391.1-mm (15.4-in) TFT display:
    * Width: 329 mm (13.0 in)
    * Depth: 268 mm (10.6 in)
    * Height: 31 to 36 mm (1.2 to 1.4 in)

    it is not clear why 14" width/depth float in 2-4 inches? is it wide and no wide specs?
    there is mostly no difference between 14 and 15 specs and 14 even smallest than 15.

    so is any body has an idea what is wrong with specs and if it makes sense to get 14" at all since no diff from 15?

    No, it's not referring to two different models, the width actually varies at different points along the notebook, because T series are slightly wedge shaped. The 1.09" to 1.26" is actually the range of width from slim at the front and slightly less so at the rear.

    When comparing "volume" of notebooks, I generally just average those widths.

    Naw, just a couple tenths of an inch, and only in width.

    The other two dimensions are uniform.

    14.1 in - 12.4 in = 1.7

    As far as I know, there are three screen options for T61, 14.1-inch (16:9 widescreen), 15.4-inch (16:9 widescreen), and an unannounced 14.1-inch (4:3 standard). You can check the p/n for 14.1-inch standard model "8895-2FU" on lenovo.com.

    Possible dimension for them may be 13.0*10.6, 14.1*10.2, 12.4*10.2 accordingly. There is absolutely something wrong on Lenovo's website. The 14.1-inch widescreen or standard (14.1/12.4*14.1/10.2) would never have a larger size than 15.4-inch widescreen (13.0*10.6).
