I finally found a new t61 14,1 1440x900 thinkpad. I live in the Netherlands and found one in Germany. I already ordered it but then I discovered the german keyboard is completely different from the dutch (and US) keyboard. :( It seems my luck is really running out.

So somebody said it was possible to order a new US keyboard and replace it. But I really don't like to open my brand new thinkpad, I'm really paranoid about that.

But, does a US keyboard fit anyway on a thinkpad where a german keyboard is installed?

Can I order a US keyboard from lenovo, should that be fast shipping? I needed a laptop the day before yesterday already.

Is it with risk of consequense to open up and replace a keyboard?

Well the shop in Germany can switch the keyboard for me from german to US, it's 45 euro's.

I just wondered. I saw the instruction video of the replacement. Can these bolts be screwed back on too thight or too loose?

I just hate it that somebody is going to replace something at my laptop, I am a bit paranoid, thinking that only the factory can tighten these bolds just as they have to be.

Don't worry. I've also changed my keyboard. Your notebook won't get worse. ;)

Ok thanks. Can you screw the bolts back on too tight so that the keyboard is going to warp?

I wouldn't worry. Just screw it in loosely as far as it will go without any pressure, then snug it up using light pressure.

Tommy the cat, how did you go with changing your keyboard? I'm actually trying to do the reverse myself US>German.

Let me know if you still have your German keyboard, I'm sure I could find a good home for it :) that's if a T61 keyboard would fit into a T400. Does anyone know?

Hi, I have a german keyboard with the enter key shaped liked a 7 as shown in http://www.pcwelt.de/bildpopup/89100/89153/88984/index.html?

    http://carbon.cudenver.edu/~tphillip/GermanKeyboardLayout.html

Actually, I am looking for an US keyboard.. http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=24296

If you have one, maybe we can do a swap?

    Btw, the keyboards for T60, T61, T61p, R60, R61, Z60 are interchangeable..

    Thanks.

Not only that, someone told me the keyboards for 14.1" T61 fits 15.4" T60, both standard and wide. Can someone confirm this?
