Love the new T61, not happy with the Samsung panel and need some help.

Looking to get as close as possible to the actual manufacturer part number for the 14.1" 1440x900 LG Philips LCD panel so I can buy one and install it myself. Lenovo sees no problem with the wide difference in quality between the two. (I also welcome feedback on the panels, from those who have them, to help everyone on the forum who is interested).

I have the onboard Intel X3100 graphics and WXGA+ no camera.

For anyone interested in seeing what panel they have and responding...

Fresh Diagnose from www.freshdevices.com will tell you the EXACT part number of your LCD and runs on XP and Vista no problem.

I REALLY appreciate anyone that replies.

    My current panel LTN141WD-L05 Samsung

Got my sn off the shipping invoice. Lenovo's site lookup by model and sn, then look at the faq at the top of this subforum.

    Here's the deal - YMMV

I think the Samsung may have less "sparkle" or "grain" than the LG, but the viewing angle is a bit worse. I've adjusted the colors and may just live with it, since Lenovo doesn't do anything about these situations.

I found that SmartMicroUSA is actually here in my hometown of Dallas and they have the various LG panels for ~199. If I try an LG and like it, I could probably ebay the samsung as it is practically new.

Anyway, bottom line is - I was hoping to get some feedback on the LG to help ease my mind about the decision and to make sure I bought the right panel. A few dollars well spent doesn't really bother me at this point. I need a lsptop, the T61 is the best for my needs at this time, and I can't wait any longer to start using it fully.

As the T61's have just been introduced, why don't you wait a while and see what other people's experiences are regarding the 2 types of screens.

From what I read, for the T60's, Samsung had a batch of mediocre screens. The problem apparently has been corrected. Later production runs have been pretty good.

imo yes. If you are trying to return your flexview for a t 61, I'd recommend going 15.4". Hopefully you'll get an LG.

You wont get your Serial number until your laptop is shipped. Once you have that and the part number of your laptop, go to the sticky at the top of these message boards. All the information is there.

    Hi Hrj -

If I'm not mistaken, those aren't the manufacturer's own numbers. You have to run exploratory software (I think I used PCWizard 2007) to get the right numbers. Then google them.

For what it's worth, my R61i has the Samsung display, and I can see nothing at all wrong with it. [But then, I had to turn my 'anal' switch to OFF, on account of I can't afford a T61p right now.] 8>)
