Hello, I am planning to purchase a T61 in the next few days. I was wondering what the different options for the panel were. The only one I'm able to configure is the 15.4" WXGA. I can't find WXGA+, WSXGA, WSXGA+, WUXGA, WUXGA+. I am not even sure if any of them exist other than the WXGA for 15.4".

Also, I was wondering if WXGA would be satisfying enough for me. I am currently on a standard 15" and the max resolution is 1024x768. Thanks.

Edit: Also, is 2 gigs of ram necessary for running vista smoothly, or will 1 gig suffice?

Edit 2: What is the most recommended warranty to get for thinkpads? The extra care for spills, etc. isnt really necessary for me since I plan to not have any food/drinks near the computer. I am only offered 1 year depot warranty with my configuration, I was wondering if I could later add on more years, or if right now I could change it to 3 years.

Edit 3: I'm using an EPP code for this purchase and I've read that if you use it, you cannot return unless you get a DOA. I just wanna make sure that if I get something like a buzzing hard drive, a cracked screen, or something like that, the warranty will kick in for me. Thanks a lot again.

What will you be doing with the computer? The Thinkpads are designed for office and workuse with a high level of protection. If your planning on using the laptop for gaming and media, I would suggest you choose another laptop.

And i dont think they have the better screens than the WXGA+, but prices goes much higher when upgrading WXGA to WXGA+

2GB ram is enough for vista, at least what Iv experienced so far with vista

I plan to do mostly schoolwork/browsing/TV shows and movie watching/very very very light gaming if at all. Basically I've thought a lot between getting a Thinkpad and a Dell, and I think the Thinkpad would be best, since I'm looking for something that will last me a long, long time.

Do things look better in WXGA+ compared to WXGA? What can a rough estimate of the upgrade be? How can I upgrade this? (I've tried on the Canadian Lenovo site).

The 15.4" T61 has options for WXGA and WSXGA+ screen. (T61p has WUXGA, this notebook isn't for you anyway.)

Also, WXGA is a a bit low resolution for a 15.4" screen, so I'd go for WSXGA+ since you will have much more real estate on the desktop.

However, the resolution is a personal preference.
