Just wanted to see peoples' experiences with the palmrest heat on the T61 4:3 (8897-CTO).

I ran a test b/w my T61 and T60p, both of which have 7200.1 seagate drives, and the T61 HDD runs about 5-7 deg. C warmer than the T60p during normal and heavy disk activity. The max temp on the T61 was about 50 deg. C after running virus scan for 30 mins. This also shows up on the palmrest, and the t61 palmrest is consistently warmer than the T60p palmrest.

During normal browsing and some java development work, the HDD temp is about 38 deg C on the T61.

    Following is my configuration:

    14.1' 4:3 (8897-CT) 2GB RAM 100GB@7200rpm seagate dr, integrated graphics, 9 cell battery T7500 2.2 GHz proc Windows Vista

I know couple other ppl who have seen this issue, so wanted to start a thread to discuss this, to see if this is a common issue.

My palm rest temperature is fine, just lukewarm, but the left bottom is quite hot, ever since I turned on the computer without even doing anything. Is there a way I can know the temperature of the computer?

Thanks a lot for the link. I downloaded one of the hard disk drive temp and it shows 42C. The core temp software crashes my computer and I haven't found any other freeware that can tell temp of core 2 duo. (there's one for AMD)

Meanwhile the bottom temp seems a bit lower now, strange.

whats your config? Are you running vista?

My HDD temp shows 38 while idle, and the palmrest is just mildly warm...is this the expected behavior with the 7200.1? Also, do you see the 42 deg. C after 30 min disk activity or when you're not doing a whole lot on the machine?

I have Core 2 Duo T7100, 60GB HDD,5400rpm, XP Pro, integrated graphics, nothing fancy. I'm using ethernet DSL connection, though I have Thinkpad abgn. And since I received it this morning I haven't done anything except visiting this forum and installing a couple of normal softwares (none taking much time). The heat went on soon after I turned it on the first time. Sometimes the HDD temp is 39C. But I'm eager to know the processor temp, since it's the area at bottom left where the heat lies.

The palmrest has been fine all the time, just the left half of the bottom feels really hot.

I think the processor is bound to heat up...every thinkpad i've had has that area heat up to some extent....

its the palmrest that should be cool...

There is an app that came installed on the laptop called diskeeper. Uninstalling this nuisance seems to be helping the temperature a bit so far.....(touchwood)

    all that norton crapware
    diskeeper
    accesshelp
    accessconnections (terrible for WWAN)
    pc doctor
    away manager

In my opinion Thinkvantage is also a resource hog, and basically useless its buggy and can really mess up your computer. Before I uninstalled everything I had thinkvantage setup to auto-update software, it downloaded a bios updated and fried my motherboard when it restarted in the middle of the update. From that point on I decided to get rid of all the Lenovo thinkvantage trash as well as everything else that is preloaded. Access Connections is so buggy esp with WWAN that its unusable.

I got Core Temp downloaded (instead of 'view all unzipped file' I chose 'run', so it didn't crash to BSOD). The processors' temps are both 44C as I'm simply browsing the Web. HDD is 35C. In fact the most heated time was yesterday after I first turned on the computer. Maybe the intial process takes more work?

I also uninstalled diskeeper. And integrated camera (I don't even have camera on it, they still installed the software on my laptop).

I wouldn't call Disabling DEP a tweak. Properly written software shouldn't need to mess with DEP.
