You will find on Lenovo.com now. I didn't think it would ever happen but it looks like they decided to keep the 4:3 ratio around for the T series a while longer. Price configurations are higher than I expected.

No T61p 4:3 is configuration is available yet.

I found a 4:3 T61p on the Education site through Higher Education in my state.

Still, not available on the consumer website.

Standard screen ratios are expensive to make now since the industry has pretty much converted to widescreen.

Isn't that grand...the day I receive my T61 after 3 weeks of waiting, Lenovo decides to release the 4:3 regular aspect I was pining for. B@stards! The only benefit for me is that I saved 680 dollars with the SPP, Fatwallet, July discount code, and Tailormade for a similarly configured 4:3 T61.

I don't think he meant he bought a T61 for only $680, but that by buying the 14.1 ws version, he spent $680 than what he would have if he bought the 4:3 version today. That's a lot of money for just a 4:3 screen. IMO, who cares about 4:3 when you save $680?

Yeah, that's the thing that's keeping me happy is the $680... but I'm coming from a 14" SXGA T43 and after using the 14" WXGA+ for web development work, those extra 150px of vertical space matter to me...sure i get 40px more horizontal, but doing the math, I lose 174,000 sq px. I'm not mad that I got a deal...I'm disappointed that i wasn't given the option to get the 4:3 aspect when I decided to purchase my T61, especially given all the good deals going on at the time...

I prefer SXGA+ for things like Office and Internet, but it ain't worth that kind of a premium to me. Kind of glad I picked up my R60 when I did for $850.

Supply and demand. Not a large supply of 4:3 screens, lots of demand for them. Thank everyone who bought widescreen laptops and TV's over the years ;)

    T61 4:3 $1870.26 vs T61 15.4 $1500.02 (both w/EPP)

Same configuration. I can't justify the price. Also, who knows when it will ship! Classes start in 4 weeks for me...

I too was holding out a long time for a T61 4:3. After finding a new T60 2623-D6U for $850.00, I decided that I really did not need the latest and greatest improvements in T61 hardware.

Still, in the back of my mind I wondered if I would regret not waiting for the T61. Now I have the answer: no regrets at all especially after seeing the pricing on the T61. No doubt it should be a great machine. But for approaching twice the price w/ shipping and taxes, I'm loving the deal I got on the T60. I should be quite satisfied w/ this for a few years.

Just another illustration that many CSRs don't know sh*t about sh*t but pretend they do. I can't believe Lenovo suddenly though "oh no, we must add 4:3 to the lineup". They must have been out sourcing the screens and other components for months.

Exactly. After I insisted to know when 4:3 will come out, the rep asked me to hold on for a few seconds, like he's going to ask a higher level person, then came back with a more confident tone: "No, we are not going to introduce them." I read somewhere in this forum another poster also said a rep told him the same. Perhaps there's a conspiracy?

I speak to my Lenovo rep on a daily basis and he told me all along that they were to be released on the first of August.

BUT, he said they will probably not ship till the end of the month. So be ready to wait for these.

I wonder how good/bad those screens are.
If Lenovo are just reusing the old supply of the 150-185 nit screens, then the price premium over the newer and brighter wide aspect ones makes it a horrible deal.

Does the protection services include warranty, since there is only 1-year warranty available?

Also, no one is concerned there's no 11a/b/g/n ?

    More questions:

Do you think they'll ever improve the T61 battery so that:
    1. Batteries have longer life (as T60)
    2. 6-cell batteries will not stick out (again as T60)
    ?

There's Intel a/b/g/n available on the 8891 model I configured. No Atheros option, however, perhaps due to the long delays that would create.

Both 8891 and 8897 models only offer joint warranty/protection exptensions (no warranty-only extension, which sucks). I ordered an 8889 model that has a standard 3-year warranty and no protection.

6-cell batteries do not stick out on the 4:3 models but the 9-cell versions do. No idea on battery life.

Are you sure? I see on 8891 there're only ABG or AGN, but no A/B/G/N all in one (the Thinkpad one).

    That's good news. Thank you.

The Intel AGN is the same as ABGN (it's the intel 4965, not the Atheros "Thinkpad" card, however). According to Intel's site...

The Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN product is an embedded 802.11a/b/g/Draft N¹ PCIe* Mini Card network adapter card that operates in both the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz spectrum, delivering high throughput and a host of features that enhance today's mobile lifestyle.

14.1" SXGA+ is good but expensive. Thinking about the money you could save, I will select 14.1" WXGA+ version.

The price for the standard screens seems to have fallen throughout the day.

Earlier, I configured a 14.1" SXGA+ system for $1,234, with a 1 Yr Depot Warranty, exclusive of taxes, coupons, cash backs, etc.

A similarly configured widescreen (currently without the +) was priced about $130 less.

I ordered an 8889 on 7/21 using the 10% coupon and the same configuration today was $120 less even without the additional 10% off. It's crazy. Just goes to show the coupons are a big con when "sale" prices yo-yo around like this.
