Anyone know if the screen is going to be centered or offset? The audio jacks for the T61 4:3 are on the side correct?

Yes, the 14.1 4:3 screen is offset in a similar way to the widescreen model. (more border on left than right)

Yes, the audio jacks are on the sides.

Wonder if they have any 4:3 screens in at all.

Is there a reason for this? Is it at all distracting (or do you even notice it while using it)?

I've used both including 4:3 and it isn't a wee bit distracting! noticed it for a few secs, but once you're logged in to windows and start doing your thing... you'll never notice it! ;)

What else do we know about these babies? Do they have the display rollcage, updated cooling system, etc.?

When I used the "customize" option with the T60 it had multiple warranty options (protection from spills, hardware failures, etc...) aside from just duration and depot vs. on site.

Does the "3 Year Depot Upgrade with 3 Year ThinkPad Protection" for the T61 cover everything (hardware failure, spills, drops, etc...) under one additional warranty cost?

Also, what does the upgrade mean?

What link? If you mean the one I posted to the 8889 model (with the standard 3-year warranty and Nvidia 570M option) then do a search for my posts from the last couple days... I can't remember what thread it was in. The 8891 and 8897 models can be had through the normal channels on the Lenovo.com site.

I know everyone's unofficial info varies, but any news/rumors concerning a standard (non-WS) 15" screen on any of the T61's in the works?

There was a link to a page with all the T6xx machines horizontally orientated. On a 24" screen it was still off the screen. The last one was a 4:3 14" T61 that I could select the Quadro 570...essentially making a 4:3 14" T61P. I was wondering how to get back to that page.

Does anyone who ordered the T61 14.1 4:3 know if they've shipped yet?

I just looked at the lenovo site and they no longer have the T61 4:3s there. What's going on?

Yup, they've shipped. Got mine on Friday of last week. Not thrilled with the screen, though. Contrast is poor and backlight is uneven towards the bottom.

With supply short to begin with, the bigger question is whether we will see the 4:3 option available ever again?

With new models being added and old models being removed from the Lenovo site, it's really a moving target. I hope it stabilizes soon. I also hope the 4:3 comes back...

If we do see it again, i wonder if there will be a drastic price increase for the option...you would think no, but when the supply chain becomes more of a trickle, the regular aspect becomes more of a true "custom" build

When I first started looking for a new laptop I was thinking that the 4:3 market was a niche, but after reading users view online it seems a demand still exists for it. Though I'm sure most still prefer the price drop the widescreen offers.

Aside from "Just liking" the 4:3, I don't have a great justification for wanting it. Even so, I'll wait in hopes that a new batch of 14.1 4:3's are on the way.

I wanted a 4:3 T61 to replace my T43 as my primary computer, but reading all the rumors of the 4:3 being scrapped and calling Lenovo CSRs to order the 4:3 from the alumni link and then being told they don't even see that configuration in their system, I decided to pull the trigger on the WXGA+ screen since all the discounts were around (SPP, July code, Tailormade, Fatwallet) all stacked on top of each other. After waiting 3 weeks, my T61 arrives on 08/02...i open the box at 10:30am...Lenovo decides to update their site that very night with the release of the 4:3 that i wanted. So for the past 2.5 weeks i've been debating whether or not to return my system and get a T61p for about 500 bucks more that what i paid. Today is my last day to call for a return, and what do you know it's also the day they take the 4:3's off the site.

The 4:3 SXGA has about 174000 more pixel real estate than the WXGA+ screen ((1400x150)-(40x900))...so that might matter to you.

Humm... The descriptions under the 14" T61 section still list that it is available in standard and widescreen. I wonder if they just forgot to change this or if there is hope that standard 4:3 will be offered again shortly.

I think that description has been there even before they released the 4:3 screens. Funny thing is, the chart has always shown that the T61 and T61p aren't available in standard screen configs.

I guess maintaining a site that's different across 30+ countries can be a bit of a chore.

I hope the latest T61p data sheet is accurate, because according to that the 14" 4:3 screens are now rated at 200 nits - and I ordered one 2 days ago.... no mention on contrast though.
