I just purchased a T61, and have a question about battery. All specs and literature indicate I was to expect std 6 cell battery to extend beyond the back of laptop. Unit I have does not extend out...it is flush with back like the 4 cell unit on my T40. I called Lenovo, and they check FRU#, and confirm it was 6 cell. Haven't let it run on battery til end yet to verify, but how do I know for sure? Also, my battery lite flashes orange when attached to AC adapter...what's that? (I get "Battery 2: error detected")

You sure that you don't have yourself a 4:3 T61 there? Only 4:3 T61s have a flush 6-cell battery; the 9-cell sticks out.

On widescreen T61s, the 6-cell and 7-cell stick out; only the 4-cell is flush.

FWIW, there was never a 4-cell battery for the T40, only 6-cell and 9-cell.

As for your flashing problem, I don't know, sorry.

Thanks for response. What is 4:3 T61?

It's a standard screen as opposed to widescreen. 4:3 is the standard ratio. I think 16:9 is the widescreen ratio.

Simply put, it means your screen has a resolution of either 1024x768 or 1400x1050. (1024/768 and 1400/1050 yield a ratio of around 4:3, hence my calling it a 4:3 T61.)

Do you know the resolution of your T61? You can find it by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Properties" (provided you have XP). If you have Vista, right-click, select "Personalize," and then select "Display Properties."

I am totally a Newbie...it's a 1024x768. Really enjoying my laptop...but my flashing lite is annoying. Manual is not helpful...I am sure glad you guys are out there.

Looks like you have a standard 4:3 screen. The 6-cell will be flush with the laptop then.
