Does the 14.1 widescreen T61 fit the 9 cell battery? I know it is not offered on the ordering section only 7 cell offered but does the 9 cell work for the t61 14.1 widescreen??
-
It does not.
-
they actually talk about not having a 9 cell for the 14in WS in the thinkpad event in the sticky....
the best way to achieve a '9-cell' is to get the 7 cell and an ultrabay battery...which they claim is 3 cells...but..in reality it is ~2 cells.....something to do with the diff chem composition of the Li-ion -
do any of you guys experience having some flexes with the T61P 9 cell on a 15.4"? I feel like mine does have a lot of unstable movement....I almost have that feeling that it may popped out pretty soon.......I did lock the battery but I still noticed that problem.........other than, I really love this machine
-
What do you mean does not fit? Will not work, or is not flush with the case?
Also, I got the 14.1 SXGA with 9 cell from Lenovo- will that cause me problems? I thought it wasn't flush (but don't know about anything else) -
The 14inch non-widescreen is a 6 or 9 cell, and the 9 cell does stick out. After a while you begin to ignore it
At least I have. Not sure what the flex issue is. The battery does wiggle ever so slightly, but that's about it.
-
I was the one who asked whether there would be a 9 cell for the 14in wide...but the questioner took out the 14in and made it sound funny since there is a 9 cell fo ra T61..just not 14in wide (
)
-
Yeah, I wish the battery options were the same for both, it sure has added a lot of confusion. I wonder how many folks have ordered the wrong batteries for either/or (normal/wide).
-
Ok well I was just wondering if the battery actually worked for the T61 14.1 widescreen. Not if it sat flushed.
-
This means that I could remove my CDRW and replace it with a battery? Do you know the part# for that? Can it be charged externally?
Thanks!

And yes, indeed the chemistry matters (Li-ion vs. Li-polymer) -
The battery cannot be charged externally to the best of my knowledge which is limited. The modular battery is both good and bad. Good because it gives you extended battery life, but bad since it always discharges first, it wears out quickly. I had it for my R60. It was at less than 50% after like four months whereas my main six cell was still at 80%+ of its original capacity. When my main battery dropped below 50% after a year and half of use, I just opted to get the nine cell battery, which gives better battery life than the six cell and modular batteries together, though it does add a bit of weight.

I just added the wattage numbers to Menos's nice chart. They might be more intuitive to understand. Obviously, the Ultrabay is a measly 29W vs. the 9-cell's 84W. The older 7-cell actually gave you the best Watt/cell ratio. I assume that more cells = heavier and larger so if you're looking for long life and as light as possible, 7-cell is best it seems. I wouldn't know from experience because when I ordered my Thinkpad, the 7-cell option had been replaced by the 9-cell option.

PS
Thanks zoogle -
I thought t61 14.1 WS could not accomodate a 9 cell battery?!? Looks like from your sig ZaZ, that I thought wrong. Could you tell me what the part# is?
Ideally, I'd love to have a battery I could charge externally, but a 9 cell would be nice also. My notebook sips energy when settings right.
Thanks -
NM - I see the meno's chart...
9-cell 40Y6797

ctbook, that 9-cell is for the T60/R60/Z60. I wouldn't risk trying to fit it on a T61.
-
Caveat emptor!
The chart serves as an approximate comparison between batteries.
E.g. that 8-cell fits X series. The 9-cell one, available with new T61s, is not listed since it is not separately available from Lenovo site yet.
That's why I put the part number there. -
For the T61 15.4", is there a 9 cell battery available ?
-
Thanks for clarifying! I really appreciate your help everyone.

I have seen the new 9 cell for 14.1 widescreens available elsewhere though. It is part # 43R2499. From what I can see on paper, it looks to be 1.14 pounds and 3.04 inches depth. That is a difference from the 7 cell # 41U3197, (2.65" depth and .88 pounds) and 6 cell # 41U3198, (2.57" depth and .77 lbs). The 6 cell and 7 cell ave very close in size and weight but the new 9 cell appears considerably larger/heaver.
Anyone with a new 14" widescreen and 9 cell have any comments? -
The new 9-cell is pretty chunky and heavy. It makes the R61 14" widescreen quite a bit heavier but I always see longer battery life as good justification for weight increases (i.e small laptop + fat battery >> big laptop + normal battery). That 9-cell you mention is the one that my laptop uses and is available for T61 14" widescreens as well I believe.
If you are buying the battery separately, I would still go with the 7 cell since the added weight doesn't really lead to much more life (30 min maybe?). If you are buying the battery as part of the system, there's not much choice for you anyway b/c Lenovo AFAIK got rid of the 7 cell option and only has the 9 cell option. The 9-cell battery is, however, cangled upwards so it makes grabbing the laptop and working on it from the lap much more comfortable since it doesn't jut out horizontally.
T61 9 cell?
