Wow, amazing, T61s are actually shipping. Why is it listed as having a 14.2" screen though I wonder. 14.1" I think is what that should be :)

The sudden influx of reports of T61s shipping is indeed comforting, in a way...but at the same time it's grandly frustrating that all of these people who ordered in the first and second week of June are getting theirs, and those of us who ordered in early and mid May are still being told August by the order status page (and in some cases, the reps)!

Been using mine all day (got it this morning). Overall very impressed with it.

The BS about Lenovo making the thinkpad cheap now is not true, dont feed into rumours! Mine is perfect all around and all the parts are fit together perfectly.

Screen seems plenty bright and no sparkle affect on mine at least. Bit of backlight bleed on the bottom but it is minimal and overall the colors look great.

Only thing I am not liking right now is how slow it is, but that is because I am running Vista on 512mb of RAM! My 2gbs come next tuesday so then I can really report on the speed :p

It is VERY quiet and not warm at all except for a tiny bit on the right palm rest (where the HDD is). It runs cool and super quiet so in that department Lenovo did an awesome job. (BTW, mine is the intel graphics with Thinkpad Wifi).

Size is perfect IMO. Not to big not too small. Weight is good as well with just enough to make it feel solid.

Reinstall has been a chore with 512mb of memory since things take a long time to install, but I am now finished with all the drivers and such and all is running well and quicker than the default load.

I will try to get some good pics up soon for all to see as I know when I was waiting I really wanted to see some more pictures!

The memory upgrade for 2gb was only 60 bucks.. (at least when i ordered) pictures would be great !

Hows the viewing angle on this ? is there a lot of color shift with a tiny movement of the head ? (that's why i returned a t60P)

    Thanks.

Its not TOO bad really. Laptops always will be not the greatest but the T61 does a decent job IMO. The colors are also very good...out of the box it is pretty close to my corrected monitor.

I have the 7 Cell and was on battery for about 2.5 hours tonight. By the end of 2.5 hours or so it was sitting at a supposed 3% left and only 2 minutes to go. I then set it on the counter and have been watching it still at 3% but bounce between 2 and 8 minutes for the last half hour. I am now running the battery gauge reset because I think the gauge is just inaccurate right now right out of the box.

BTW, I was running with Wifi on, about half screen brightness, and tons of HDD and Processor action (I was reinstalling drivers and a bunch of programs).

    Congrrats on receiving your system!

Do you plan on running any games on that system?

I'm interested in seeing some actual performance #'s instead of benchmarks

The music in the youtube video was fitting:

" I drive the very latest hover car,
I don't know where you are - but I miss you so much till then,
I met someone who looks alot like youm
She does the things you do, but she is an IBM

She's only programmed to be very nice,
But she's as cold as ice, whenever I get to near,
She tells me that she likes me very much,
But when I try to touch, she makes it all to clear.

She is the latest in technology,
Almost mythology, but she has a heart of stone,
She has an IQ of 1,001,
She has a jump suit on, and she's also a telephone."

No Idea why it says Vista Basic as supposedly the intel integrated can still run aero (currenty not running aero but probably because I have 512mb of RAM and vista is struggling to run as it is :p)

It depends on what components that you select whether you get the Centrino Pro sticker....have you ever tried to configure a laptop on the HP website...the incorrect sticker for your components can prevent you from placing an order!!

I think the Vista sticker is whatever your laptop shipped with and not what it's actually capable of. Is Vista Home Basic what you got on yours?

Centrino is not the processor, it is the combination of processor, chipset, and wireless card. To qualify for Centrino all have to be made by Intel and of a certain lineup.

Now, on mine I choose the Thinkpad Wifi Card, this means it is not the Centrino Setup (since no intel wifi) and thus I get the Core 2 Duo sticker. Same processor, same chipset, but Thinkpad vs. Intel Wifi.

True but I did not get home basic, I got home premium which can support aero. I think the other guy got the standard vista sticker since he had the nvidia card. When I get more memory I will have to see if the intel integrated does run aero...although it should since intel said it does....

I hear that Vista Basic DOES have aero skin, sort of.
All you need to do is edit two registry entries:

Navigate to the key Hkey_Current_User \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ DWM \ and change the value of the entry Composition to 1 and the value of CompositionPolicy to 2

Actually not too bad. Obviously not going to be the best quality, but they get pretty loud and are not overly crackly.

I was watching some TV on mine (with a external tv tuner) and I was sitting about 4 feet away and could hear the audio clearly without having to crank it all the way to its max.

The screen, at lowest brightness, is still bright enough to see. The speakers are pretty good too. I tried working with the max batt savings, lowest brightness, muted, and I got up to 3hrs and 40 min on that bad boy
