    Hi Everyone,

Could someone help me out on this BSOD issue?
whenever I press the power button it will always go to a BSOD and then it will restart automatically. Upon the completion of the startup, I have attached the error message that I've got since last week.

Basically the first start never works and then the system would load properly upon the 2nd attempt which is automatic .

If someone could help me with this, that'll be great.

    Thanks a lot in advance,
    cn_habs

From my experience, the T61 doesn't get the BSOD unless you caused it. You might have installed a program recently and that might be the problem. I had a USB device immediately sent me to the BSOD when I plugged it in to my T61. The only time when the T61 did not boot in my first attempt was when my BIOS was not loading (a hardware issue).

Thanks for the quick reply so it appears to be a driver related issue according to the Windows 7 Action Center.

Thar goes back to what I said in my previous post, you will have to uninstall any recent programs or updates you installed (BSOD happen almost immediately after the problematic drivers or update). The best idea is to restore your system to a system restore made before any of the BSOD.

which GPU do you have? Also, try to run Prime95 and Furmark together see whether the BSOD comes back.

Intel x3100 is the integrated GPU I believe. If it's GPU related then i might as well get a new laptop from the previous generation?

I haven't tried it yet because I fixed the BSOD problem by simply waiting a dozen of seconds before shutting down the computer each time. I removed a couple of spyware as well which may have been the cause.

On a side note, should I upgrade my current sluggish 5400rpm HDD to a Hitachi 7k500 to get a fairly significant overall performance boost?

From personal experience, you would a get a noticeable improvement in terms of program startup time, and more storage is always better.

I second this advice. I ran Windows Update last week on my T61 including optional updates and then I was getting BSODs on shutdown. I rolled the system back to before the updates and then it was fine. It has since re-installed the critical updates and the BSODs haven't returned.
