I am trying to buy a new battery for my T61. I found the following websites:

    Staples (Item Number 747572: $99)

    notebookbattery[dot]com (40Y6797: $119)

    penguinsexpress[dot]com (40Y6797: $113)

They all say that their products are originals. However the prices are suspiciously low. And with Staples, the battery doesn't look 100% like normal Lenovo Batteries-- and calls the battery a "replacement battery." However, it is Staples, a reputable store, and it says that the battery is backed up by Lenovo.

BTW, my battery died all of a sudden after 15 months, and 235 cycles. It just all of a sudden produces no current. There was no gradual loss of battery life or anything; it was almost as good as new just before this happened, giving me around 4 hours of use. Its really annoying and gives me a bad taste in my mouth for Lenovo, cause this is my 4th laptop (1st time Lenovo) and is the 1st time the battery died like this. Conversely, my Toshiba laptop of 4 years has a battery that still holds a decent charge. Has anyone heard of something like this?

the last two on your list look fine, they both mention that lenovo is the mfg and have the right pics.

however are you sure you need a 40Y6797? if you have a wide screen t61 (ie model 7661 or 7662) then i am pretty sure you need a different part number. t61 wide screen and standard screen have different batteries

to find the right model numbers, go to lenovo, accessories & upgrades, then batteries. type in your machine type and then you will see the compatible battery part numbers

Thanks. I checked on Lenovo.. they say that the 40Y6797 is for 14 and 15 inch wide. I do have a 15 inch wide in fact.

ahh yes, the 15 inch uses that battery.

as long as you charge with your visa/mc, you can always dispute the charge if they send you some 3rd party battery instead of the lenovo (as they have stated)

    good luck
