    OS: Windows Vista

Situation: I boot up with a SD card already in the reader and the computer reads it fine. However, when I take it out and place the same or another SD card in, the SD does not appear in "Computer." In "Device Manager" it says the following regarding the SD Memory Card.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

If I were to try a different memory card type, like xD, the card reader reads it without any problems mentioned above.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks.

It's an update from Microsoft Update.

My friend who also has a T61 installed a clean install of Vista, and the card reader worked fine, but when he updated with Microsoft Update and restarted it would no longer read Memory Sticks.

He went back to XP, and the card reader worked.

    Hope somehow this helps :D.

Same problem here.. but not really affected b/c it's my ReadyBoost card.
But have a look at this:
    http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardware-devices/77707-sd-memory-card-driver.html

People with the same problems and solution. Especially the link to the logitech forum with more detailed steps.
Essentially, you have to delete some files from the windows\inf directory (infcache.* and more) that will be rebuild on the next boot.

I'm investigating the issue because of another problem. I'm using the SD card as ReadyBoost Device whose WPD driver self-destroys on various occasion, e.g. starting Winamp, messed up Bluetooth connections.. which causes these apps to freeze and become unkillable.
Don't know whether its ReadyBoost or just the SD card.. but getting closer ;)
