Using Notebook Hardware Control, I see that the processor (1.8 GHz) is not throttling back in any of the power modes. It just stays at 1.8Ghz. Is there a problem with the T61 that prevents this from happening?

My previous laptop, the Acer8204 did throttle back - it used a 2.0GHz Core Duo.

Could somebody else with the T61 (I have the 14.1 inch widescreen with integrated graphics) try this?

    NHCi is available at http://www.pbus-167.com/

    Thanks

Make sure your CPU is set to adaptive. Use Intel Thermal Analysis Tool. Throttles back fine for me.

Okay, works like a charm. The intel thermal analysis tool shows the processor throttling back nicely. The NHC software is just reporting the wrong clock speed... The NHC settings do work though, so max. performance has the CPU going at 1800MHz and Dynamic throttles between 800 and 1800MHz.

    Thanks for the tip

what do you mean by "CPU set to adaptive"? Is it using NHC, or a setting in Vista or Lenovo's software? thx!

You can set the CPU to adaptive in the Lenovo Power Management window. There may be other ways, but that is how I set it.

Double click on the green battery icon next to your sys tray.
Then you will have to edit an existing power plan, or make a new one.
When you get to manipulating the power settings you have an option to mess with the "Max CPU speed"
    You options are:
    -Highest
    -Adaptive
    -Low
    -Lowest

    There ya go :)
