I took some side-by-side pictures of my new T61 and my wife's D620 (from work). The D620 is a late production model and has the improved screen. They are amazingly similar (both rated at 220 nits). The T61 has the LG panel.

The images can be seen here.

It's nice to see them side by side. I actually had a D820, returned it and was going to go with a D630 upgraded LCD or the T61. So far, I'm happy with the T61's screen.

I think both are quality machines. Just by looks alone, IMHO, the T61 wins. It's meaner looking. :D

It's not that Lenovo wins by looks, just Dell always looses!!!
The screens look quite similar, but it seems that the t61 is slightly brighter isn't it?

In the pictures, the D620 is set at 100% and the T61 at 60% brightness. Actually, the T61 at 100% is too bright for me under normal conditions. Some have complained of sparkle, but I don't see any (could be my eyes).

Edited to add: If my T61 order hadn't arrived when it finally did, I would've bought the D630 and I'm quite sure I would've been happy with it. It runs very quiet and cool as well.

    rockyp,

I see you also have a t61 14" std. screen. How is the screen on this - any light leakage? Any other comments on the std. screen?

Ah, you noticed. It's still in the box. In fact, I have another 14-inch widescreen to open up yet. My wife thinks I've gone nuts.

I only got the 3-box shipment on Friday and want to take my time carefully inspecting one at a time. So far I'm very happy with the first one although I was very reluctant going to a widescreen, which is why I ordered a standard screen as well when it came out. (This bloody delay in shipping made me trigger-happy on the order button.)

At least one other person on this forum (lowspeed) has already received his T61 with the standard screen and he didn't seem too happy with it. My biggest fear is that, compared to the widescreen, the LCD is not bright enough (only 150 nits as to compared 220 nits).

I also have a T42 and its screen looks pitiful next to the T61. We'll see.

only 150 nits for the 4:3? Ouch.

I am very curious to see what you think of the 4:3 if you ever open it. It is really my preferred config as I really like sxga+. Now that you can get sxga+ w/ integrated GPU on the t61 (which you could not on the t60) battery life should be good w/ the t61 4:3 six cell flush battery.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the std. screen.
