T61 defects or normal? More like normal defect? Can you check yours?
>Hump to left of power button. This is well documented in the past but is it just a batch?
>Left side of palm rest near the edge (were palm rest unit meets the rest of the top cover adjacent to the keyboard) is looser than the right side. If you press down there is some flex due to the plastic not having anything to rest on. My unit has just the 2 card slots. I noticed this after I put in some new memory. Checked all screws and even reinstalled. I think it has to do with the way the case is designed.
Ø Lid has more play on the left side than the right side. Documented by others I think but is it common to all T61s?
If you bought a BMW with a hood that is looser on one side or a door that is not flush how would you feel? How about a hump on your front dash? Lol. Thanks. Otherwise appears to be a nice lappy.
Also, screen has a bluish tint. Looks coold but kind of annoying after looking at another lappy.
Vista slow as heck, even with 3GB of RAM and ITM. Seems slower than a Dell 650M XPSP2 with 1GB of RAM.

I've a T61p which I just received less than 2 weeks ago.
No hump on the left of power button for me.
Left side of palm rest has some flex, but it is expected. They are all plastics. Even if you sit in a 7 series and start pressing at every corner of the dash, you'll see them flexing as well. This is what you get then you assemble a bunch of plastic components together.
There's more real estate on the left than right, IMO, is because Lenovo put the wireless antenna there. I glanced at the manual real quick when I first got the computer and it's drawn/mentioned.
Screen does has a bluish tint. Try doing an ICC profile. I know it is an extra step. But it is not different than buying a LCD TV and having to go through fine tuning the color, white balance and black point using something like the AVIA disc.
Fortunately, 2 people on this forum took the time to create the ICC profile for the T61p WSXGA+ and my blue tint is gone.
I don't call these defects. Other notebooks will have similar issues. -
Vista seems fine on the three thinkpads I have it installed on. It is slower than XP, but that's not the hardware's fault. It sounds like Microsoft isn't really addressing this in Vista SP1 either.

Agree with the bluish tint but a custom color profile should remedy that. There's a thread here on custom icc profiles you can refer to if you have the same screen make.

I dont have the hump near the power button,
I do have flex on the left side of the wrist rest, but that is because of the way the screws are oriented on the bottom
You'll get a bluish tint if you have a samsung LCD. -
My T61 is now returned. Had, in order from worst defect first:
(1) Poor LCD. Bluish tint least of my problems.
(2) Very noisy DVD player- at all times-never "wound down."
(3) Creaky palmrests-left and right side(15.4" T61).
(4) Not a defect, but couldn't just return for a full refund w/out 15% restocking fee. Lenovo insisted on my sending it to the service center. -
My 61 has none of the problems that you describe. If I press on the right side of the wrist pad, I do feel a very slight amount of give but not much and I am picky. When the lid is closed, I can press down on either side and it will go down every so slightly more but nothing that bothered me. I am *inches* away from sending mine back.

I have the 'hump' to the left of my T61's power button. Easy to spot by comparing with the level lines of the keyboard or LCD panel. Interesting to learn that it's not just my lappy.

Big, thanks for the info. Reminds me of a transmittion hump. I hope it is an engineering design. I did see one at a store once with a simmilar problem or design but my recall was it looked worse. In fact it makes the upper part looked warped but its the strip that runs along the power button area.
how about the edge of your palm rest? on the left side. you know where the palm rest meets the rest of the frame. Right where the USB port is. If you press down on the USB symbol on the plastic, is there is some flex? -
Ok, let see:
1) Poor LCD. Bluish tint least of my problems.< it's cpp price?, low cost , low price!, low quality hehehe, you choose they sell it to you, hehehe
(2) Very noisy DVD player- at all times-never "wound down."
(3) Creaky palmrests-left and right side(15.4" T61)., hehehe... bad design, why it has to be not even, hehehe.. may be somebody left handed...
(4) Not a defect, but couldn't just return for a full refund w/out 15% restocking fee. Lenovo insisted on my sending it to the service center.
, yeah, mine too. I took time to down load all kind of updated. I have done many things so I can play DVD movies, music. Hell, my girl laughed at me because the t61 screen and color look so ugly when playing DVD. Dont even go 4G on t61p, hehehe, it ony plays 3D screen saver App. You know, my girl friendhas her cheap toshiba only 450 bucks play all kind of movies, even karaoke. I liked IBM laptop because a friend dropped his laptop from 5 feet counter or so and one only one corner chipped out, all in one piece and work well. No, it was long time ago, not any more.

Yeah, I have all of the same "defects" but I've never dealt with them. Would like to know if they are really defects at all.
-
The only issue I have is with the soft coating on the lid, marks and scores very easily.
-
Hey, I've got the same issues as you, hump by the power button and flex on the left of the palm rest. I ordered my T61 laptop 12/9/07. Another issue with mine was the left side of the keyboard was higher than the right. I disassembled the palmrest and keyboard, and reassembled it. The keyboard assymetry was fixed, but there's still a bit of a looseness to the palm rest. The hump by the power button is the ribbon cable going to the LCD. There was less of a bulge after reassembly. See this thread:

Don't forget that the front right side rubber leg rest stands up higher than the rest of the notebook....try sliding an index card underneith each of the 4 rubber leg rests and you will notice that it won't slide past the other 3...this was also known as the "wobble"
also, many models have the left bezel "click" or "pop"
My model has the power button hump, the front right wobble, as well as a clicking sound in the left speaker
thank god, mine doesn't have any backlight bleeding, left bezel "click" or "pop"
mine was also squeeky as heck until i tightened all the screws -
The only defect my T61 has is the trackpoint and space slightly touching the screen when the lid is closed. Other than that, I don't experience any of the ones that have been listed such as the wobble, creak, crack, noises, unevenness, etc.
-
My dvd-drive also used to be noisy when I just got it about five months ago, but somehow the noise is gone these days... It's probably not a defect.
-
1) Looks like I have a small hump left of the power button
2) My right side palm rest has more give than my left, left is solid
3) No bluish tint
4) Running XP Pro, not Vista.
