These questions relate to the 14'' T61
1. Is there any store where I can go and play with one in person?
2. When closed, how is the wobble with the screen latch? I like how the macbook's magnets keep it completely tight
3. How is the screen? I want to rip and watch a lot of tv shows.
4. Are there any pictures available that show how far each battery size sticks out the back of the notebook?
5. How tight is the battery kept when in place? I hate battery wobble.

1. If you have a MicroCenter nearby they should have some on display. I believe Staples or OfficeDepot MIGHT have some.
2. I haven't noticed any wobble when the screen is closed.
3. I think the screen is good. But it might depend on what panel you get. Some people get crummy ones.
4. The 9-cell sticks out about 0.9" from the back of my T61p.
5. The battery has a slight wobble on mine, but latched in pretty good. -
How far do the 6 and 4 cell batteries stick out in the 14'' ws?
What are the battery ratings for the 4 and 6? -
depending on what kind of engineering your doing you may want to think about the t61p. if you gonna be using CAD then the t61p is leaps and bounds better than an integrated GPU...integrated GPU just don't cut if for any kind of rendering work.

I will be using the T61 14'' Widescreen with the quadro - doesn't say T61P on the website...

T61s are noting to write home about concerning battery life. The reason for there is that they have a lot of horsepower. It's not a 1 ghz pentium.
I have a 15.4" and it's really a drain on my nine cell. Yours will be a little better because of the narrower screen but your gpu is power hungry. -
On the T61 14.1" widescreen the 4 cell is flush. The 6 and 7 cell batteries stick out about an inch.
On the T61 14.1" standard screen the 6 cell is flush. The 9 cell sticks out circa an inch. I saw this in person and it's no bid deal to me.
The T61p (MOBILE WORKSTATION) 14.1" come only in standard. I prefer this as a fellow engineering student. It has a more powerful QUADRO FX 570m, however, keep in mind this is a gimped version compared to the 15.4" T61p (Mobile Workstation). Overall, I prefer the smaller 14.1" for portability and working in group settings.
As an aspiring engineer, I can tell you that programs such as Pro/E Wildfire, CATIA, AutoCad, and SolidWorks all perform great. Even when using the modified GeForce drivers all went well.
Though since watching programs is important to you, you'll want a widescreen. The perfect solution would be the T61p 15.4". -
thanks for the help
15.4 is a bit to big to carry around though - I still would rather go with the 14.1''
