I'm traveling tihs week for the holidays. Away from home to actually a cooler location (than Hawaii) but also one where there's no need to turn on the AC to keep inside cool. Using WIFI when I normally dont. I notice the fan on my T61 comes on about every other minute. Maybe the AC at my home usually blocks out the noise or maybe its the WIFI but the fan coming on all every other minute is annoying? How often does your fan come on? MY T61 has the latest BIOS so takes into consideration the Nvidia "fix". Example just typing this paragraph, the machine turned on the fan twice. From mid of paragraph to end its still on. I have my machine on AC. In Power Manager everything (AC and DC) is set to the #2 notch or second lowest.

I noticed JAVA based sites seems to cause the fan to come on.

Right now with one IE window open the GPU is at 60 to 61 Celsius.

My advice to you (if you don't mind) is downloading the TPFanControl and set the fan to a Manual Setting (i.e. 2 or 3) or into the BIOS mode.

I don't know what is the stock fan setting for your T61, but in mine is the SMART Setting (according to TPFanControl anyway) and under that setting the fan kicks on and off constantly.

So, my advice again, is to put the fan into a state of low rpm to prevent the annoying switch between both states, and to conserve the GPU cool.

You should be able to 'calibrate' your perception of the noise by looking at the fan rpm. Mine does ~2500 when idle (very difficult to hear) and ~3000 under load (about as loud as the HDD).

Thanks to both of you. I'm afraid to thinker with the default setting. Should I be? Also would do you mean conserve the GPU cool?

what power mode (i.e performance or battery saver mode) are you using the laptop on when you on battery? Also, in your bios what setting are you using for your Power management when on AC and on Battery?

The wifi card would cause the temperature in the chassis to increase, which is picked by a temperature probe, this then kicks in the fan to move fresh air through the chassis as a mean to cool down the wifi card. Try to use the laptop in maximum battery life mode, to see whether that helps your laptop to cool down a bit.
