Here's the thing - my T61 came with factory installed Vista Business. Both hidden and SW_Preload partitions were screwed (overlapping). Regardless of this, I installed dual-boot linux and used it fine, till one day the Vista just said "no!" and did not launch. I posted here, then got in touch with Tech Support and eventually have the Recovery Disk Set with me.

Pity though, cause the recovery disks *also* partition the hard drive wrong - I get errors flashing like a Christmas tree once I try to re-partition the drive (gparted under linux live cd / Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 under Vista). So, my question is:

How do I fix the stupid (probably "locked" is a better word here) partitions so that my FAT table looks properly and I can use the ThinkPad properly? I am considering a Clean Install but honestly, wish to find a different solution - I lost several hours yesterday re-installing the thing. If I need to lose another day... aaaarrrrgh... :D

My vote is follow the clean install guide using the Vista anytime upgrade method and set the partitions however you'd like. I blew my machine away day 1 to get rid of the silly restore partition.
