When will the T61s get Blu-ray drives? The R61s have had them for many months now.

This was talked about sometime ago. No one knows when or even if they are as of yet. If would be interesting to know when it will be incorporated in the Thinkpad, or even if Lenovo has plans to put it in the Thinkpads at all. I assume at some point they will eventually have a Blu-Ray disk player (I don't even want to know how much that option will cost) but until then, we just have to wait and see . . . . .

"ThinkPad Blu-ray Recordable drive: Huge storage capacity using Blu-ray media ? up to 25GB (single layer) / 50GB (dual layer). These drives support Blu-ray Disc (BD) high definition movie playback and backward compatibility reading and writing to CD & DVD media. These drives also feature 2x (8 MB per second) max speed recording to Blu-ray Discs."

Maybe it will be available in future T series and refresh to the T61's. Since the T61 is geared toward business users and is not meant to be an entertainment laptop, getting a blu-ray seems over the top. But it is certainly nice to have the option to opt for one.

Wow, well I stand corrected. The R series already has them out. This is copy and pasted from the Lenovo R series order build guide:
"ThinkPad Blu-ray Recordable Ultrabay Enhanced Drive [add $447.50 Reduced Limited time Price: $247.50]
Save $200 on this drive for a limited time."
So, it's only a matter of time before they become available in the T series as well. I also hope, that since the R series has a Web cam in the 15.4 inch models, that this is another thing that the Thinkpad T series will see as well (in the 15.4 inch models).

The issue is the size of the Ultrabay (height of the bay to be specific). They are producing (or will be soon) the lower profile BD drives, so yes, hopefully Lenovo will get some products in our hands :)

LaptopGuru, So which link is right?... the link above was from Lenovo T series order build guide. i mean how can they write there that "These drives support Blu-ray Disc (BD) high definition" if it isn't available?

BTW, blu-ray drives can also play dvd or i will need 2 drives?

The description says it only works with the T in the dock:

Supported in the Ultrabay Enhanced media bay on ThinkPad R61 discrete graphics systems

Also supported in the media bay of the ThinkPad Advanced Dock when docked with the ThinkPad R61 or ThinkPad T61 discrete graphics system
