I want to replace my hard drive. I will buy a Hitachi320 GB SATA Drive.

    It will be blank.

Do I have to do something special with this? First format to0 NTFS?

I have a clone of my XP that is now working on a smaller drive. Is there a big difference between a 5400 rpm and a 7200 rpm?

After it is working I want to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.

I assume I can buy only the upgrade. Right?

There is a Microsoft migration utility of XP>>>7. Anything better or should I use this?

So the steps are first to put a larger hard drive then upgrade to WSindows 7 64 bit.

Anything I should be careful of?

I think what the OP is talking about is Windows Easy Transfer. It will transfer OS settings, browser histories/settings, and all of your documents/etc, but it won't transfer any actual programs from your XP install to your Win7. It makes system migration a much easier process.
