What's the deal with the hinges on the T61 14.2" panel?
The left-hand hinge is twice the size of the right-hand hinge. I don't get it. How can the stress on the left side be twice that of the right side?
I guess a design flaw, but on a Thinkpad? Very strange from a design/engineering standpoint. Anybody have a thought on this. Can't see how the right-side hinge will hold-up as well the left side.

Well the larger hinge is on the same side as the extra plastic on the edge of the monitor (off center monitor). Might have something to do with that.
Also could just be asthetics. The one larger hinge I think looks kinda neat when it is closed. -
Some thinkpads before have had uneven hinges. The T20's for example.

doesnt seem to affect the structural rigidity much, i wouldnt worry about it.

The hinge friction area is the same, the foot is just larger to pass through more wires. I am guessing with the newer N-compatible antennas they are passing through, it was probably pushing it on the older design, and they increased the space to prevent wires from rubbing or something.

Nothing new for a T. If you think that's bad, take a look at the t43 for a massive hinge width differential.
lol @ design flaw. As if either of those steel hinges aren't strong enough or something. Now I know how I looked by *****ing about the offset display.
