Hey guys. Longtime lurker on the site.

I searched the forum pretty extensively, but couldn't find an answer to my question.

I have a T61 running vista which I love (after I did Stalen's clean install, that is). But there is one thing that just drives me crazy.

When I close the lid and reopen it about a second later, the computer "locks up." The harddrive light stays on but the screen is black and unresponsive. I have no choice but to do a "hard reboot" with the power button.

If I close the lid and wait five seconds, it goes to sleep and "wakes up" when I press the correct key.

Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know of any workarounds?

I know the obvious solution is "don't reopen your laptop one second after you close it." I know. I try not to do this. But still, it happens to me all the time.

Thanks guys. Let me know if I was unclear on anything.

    Not really sure.

My best suggestion would be to tweak your lid closing settings.

In Vista it is possible to specify a different action for closing the lid on battery vs. on the mains (if you use the Lenovo utility you can even do this on a per power plan level). If you are like me and want your laptop to go to sleep when you close the lid on battery, but sometimes close it when plugged in with no intention of putting it to sleep this should work well for you.

If you use this method you will need a different plan to suspend when plugged in. You press Fn+F4 to put the computer to sleep. However, this often requires pressing the Fn key to wake it up as well. Instead I tend to unplug my computer before closing the lid if I want it to go to standby. This way it will wake up as soon as I open the lid the next time.

I realize this doesn't solve your problem (most likely some issue with Vista that I don't know how to fix), but this may be an effective workaround.

I've had some problems with this: I use the lenovo power utility, but can't get it to 'do nothing' when the lid is closed while plugged in. I open the power utility, change the setting, click apply and ok, and it still sleeps. Even more aggravating, I recently noticed that it doesn't even save my change at all: if I change it to 'do nothing' when the lid is closed while plugged in, then click apply and ok, and then immediately reopen power manager, it has reverted back to 'sleep when lid closed and plugged in'. What gives?

PS, sorry for hijacking your thread, but it seemed at least somewhat relevant
