I purchased my T61 few months ago. I was One month in to enjoying my new laptop then I had to send it back to replace LCD panel. There was a red doted line going from top to bottom in the left side of the screen even then pc was in rebooting/starting up stage. I plugged in my external screen and picture was clear. After I got it back from service it worked fine for 2 weeks and now I have the same problem in the same place. I am sending it back again to get it fixed. Then laptop was sent in the first time I removed my HD. Can someone tell me if Hard Drive may be the one causing this same problem? I just don't know how to erase sensitive data from my HD in order to have complete check of my laptop by service department.

Many thanks to all and Merry Christmas

No is the likely answer because hard drives dont likely cause problems. However there are exceptions some small percentage of the time. The machine is interesting because thats the one I have.

Thank you for your reply, Renee

What would be procedure or software to erase/back up sensitive info from the HD in order to send PC for warranty work with HD intact?

If you plan on sending it in with HDD, I would back up all your data onto an external storage device.

If you're using Vista Business or Ultimate, you can use the Vista Complete PC Backup & Restore to create an image of your computer, then factory restore your PC with your recovery discs. When you want to restore it back to your current setup, just run the restore discs.

    Good luck.
