Just got my 4 gigs or Patriot ram from newegg. My Hitiachi 200gig 72k harddrive. Now I am going to do a clean install and run windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. A see a lot of Thinkpad owners in the forum have made the same switch. I just would like some of you to post your thoughts about it. How did everything go. What kind of problems did you run into? How easy is it to install the 4 gigs of memory and the new hard drive?( Also, what do one do with the old HD and memory that came with the T61 from Lenovo).

What kind of test are you all running to test the memory and Harddrive. Also, tests for 64bit Vista? Do you T61 or T61p run faster with 64-bits? And finally what kind of driver problems do you have. I plan to devote my Weekend to this project. Thanks guys and girls in advance. :radar:

No problems on my end, but be sure to test the ram. I use Memtest86+ 1.70 to test it. It's a bootable disk that'll put some stress on your ram to ensure it is working properly. After you install windows, be sure to run windows update as much as you need to to download all the updates; same goes for the lenovo update.

Vista's bootable DVD has excellent memory tests.

I have a 160gb 7200rpm HD and 3GB of ram on Vista 64. No issues at all. I am considering purchasing another 2GB stick so that I can have 4GB of ram, just because.

Do I burn the Memtest86+ 1.70 to a CD, boot from that CD and then run the test of my memory?

I did get two Blue screens  and Memory dumps today after I install the microsoft updates. Have anyone else had the same problem with 64-bit vista? After the second blue screen and memory dump things seems to be ok.

Why do you need 4 GB of ram? Just because 64 bit edition reports them correctly? I have installed an OEM image ov Vista 64 bit on my desktop and it only has 1,25 GB of ram and is working fine. HDD is WD 5000AAKS and the OS works just fine, no lags, no nothing. The only thing that holds me back is the fact thad cd/dvd emulators do not work. I have Alcohol 120% and it does not work. Can someone reccomend one that works? All I need is the virtual drive and image creating capability.
I have no problems with update install, they work flawlessly.

I have Vista Ultimate 32 Bit, and 3 gigs of ram. 100gig 7200rpm main and a 7k200 in the ultrabay. I'm running the factory settings and at the moment things are really stable (had a bunch of problems at the begining though).

My boot up time is like 60 secs, if running 64bit cuts this in half I will consider, or if it cuts Hibernation in half (50secs now); I will consider.

Other than that; I find would find it more of a pain that a plus.

My T23 Gets out of Hibernation in 27 seconds. XP Pro and 1gig of ram. It's been tough for me to adjust waiting twice that time in my T61.

If anyone can find drivers for XP x64 for the T61, by all means, let me know. I had a brief stint with XP x64, but couldn't find any network drivers at all, so I gave up.

I need Dell 964 photo printer drivers for 64 bit vista. Other than that, all is well with my 64bit vista install.
