I just got my t61 back in from repair and they said it's normal that the top cover wiggles on the left side when closed. They said replacing the latch would produce the exact same result.

Does your t61's top cover move up and down when both hooks are engaged? Mine has about 2mm of play on the left side (corner opposite the slide mechanism).

If it's normal, I guess it's just something I'll live with.

    Thx all.

Mine wiggles on both sides evenly. Maybe 1mm or so. I think all laptops have a little give when you have them closed. They don't make a perfect seal. I would say it is normal, unless you actually have a gap that could potentially cause something to get stuck in there.

Yeah, that is normal. The latch is on the right side, so that side will be more tight than the left. Mine is like that, too.

My T60 wiggles in both sides... Has about 1-2 mm of play... Actually in the beginning the top cover only wiggled in the right side... I did research the subject when I got my T60 and it seemed to be normal so I didn't bother doing anything about it...

My T60 wiggles on the right-side where the latch is, the left side is tighter. I saw an HP 6515b which doesn't wiggle at all when closed, so I don't think it's normal.

I've had HP notebooks before and the lid doesn't wiggle when it's fully closed. It's shut tight.

My T61p wiggles ever so slightly, but it's not an issue for me.

My new T61 wiggles really slightly (1mm or so) and it's not an issue for my. My T60 also wiggles (about 2-3 mm) but it's 2 years old...So I think it's ok - no reasons to be worry...

My T60 wiggles from the very start I had and it was brand new then. It doesn't bother me at all also, really. I though I just had to mention it.

My T61 wiggles just a tiny bit (probably a 1mm or so like the previous posters) and not just on the left side, but evenly across the front section.
