I just ordered a T61 and I have never seen one in person.

I just remembered a problem I have had with previous notebooks.

Can someone tell me what the palm rest is made out of? I have had a compel and two dells in the past that were made out of plastic and over time and heavy use - I actually wore away the paint from the plastic in that section.

Since then I have been using a Sony SZ where it is made out of metal - so I have not experienced any of those issues.

So what is the T61 made out of?

The T61 palmrest is made of a really durable plastic. I definitely don't see the paint on this thing wearing out. It's not a smooth paint like the Dells or anything. It's as if it's not even painted. It'll last for sure.

Thinkpads are made out of a carbon-fiber synthetic. It looks and feels like plastic but seems to have a lot more structural strength. There is no paint, it's just pure black.
