Hey guys im off to college next year and want you guys to let me know what you think about what I plan on getting.

    T61
    2.4Ghz
    100gb 7200rpm
    2gb ram 2x1gb
    7cell battery
    vista business
    1gb turbo cache

From my understanding, this new turbo technology is worthless as of now but in the future when drivers are optimized I assume it will increase speed and battery life in vista...is that correct?

Finally, I understand that Vista sucks battery life as well but that can be improved in future updates correct?

Any other reasons why I should get a T60 widscreen (15.4) other than screen size as of now if improvements can be made to the newest technology of the T61 via drivers?

Those look like good specs. Are you getting it soon or plan to wait near school time? Your college computer store may even have discounts on the thinkpad.

Probably don't need the 2.4GHz unless you have a specific need, but it is a fine machine.

Im really having a tough time deciding on which to get. The T60 has a great 15.4 widescreen and ~6 hr battery usage depending on task - will drivers ever be able to get the t61 to that capacity? That is the main problem that I am having and whether Santa Rosa is THAT much better than Napa. Every review ive read says barely a 4% increase in performance.

What do you guys think. If I were to get a t60 it would be 2.33ghz,2gb ram, xp pro, 100gb 7200rpm, 9 cell battery...what would you get?

Weight is not an issue to me.

I think the 15" FlexView is a better screen. If you are getting XP, the turbo memory won't do anything for you. That's were I'd spend my money. I don't personally think the T7600 is worth the cost.

i don't understand why ppl need that much resolution, for me 1280x800 is more than enough in order to view pdf files , write papers and spreadsheets

Because my bling needs to be bigger than your bling... :D

And in the case of wanting to have glossy screens, because my bling needs to be brighter than your bling...

I got caught up in the whole bling thing myself, lol. I wish I hadn't because everything on the screen is tiny. So now I have to wear my  in order to see the screen. If I had to do over I would have bought the stock screen.

In all honesty the T60 WSXGA+ screen is beautiful that's if you can see it. ;)

Real bling comes in the form of the macbook. Thinkpads are men's laptops- for real work and not for Facebook. :D

As much as I hate tiny text, if you read PDFs for college, the higher the res, the better. Otherwise, the text on the pdf will look grainy when you zoom out to fit the whole page.
