How is the palm rest heat of those models? I'm currently using the old compaq v2000z which HDD locate directly under left palm rest and cause too much heat.
My room temp is high, 28-30c which is a bad start. Wonder if the Thinkpad design is better.

    the T61 is great.
no noise at all, and you can barely notice heat on the palm rest (i have the 5400rpm HD though)
in no way is it uncomfortable on your lap

The right palmrest on my T61 widescreen does get noticeably hot sometimes. Not so much that it hurts, or anything, but it is a bit annoying.

I've got the 7200 RPM hard drive, 60 gb.

my R61i 14.1" palmrest stays cool after being of for 12+ hours, and it is comfortable to use it in your lap. I got integrated video and 5400rpm hdd.

My 5400 rpm hdd also stays cool, even during heavy load its tough to tell if the palm rest is warm. As for the lap part... if my machine is running at full throttle then the left corner (under the vents) can get pretty warm but everyplace else is cool. While throttled down on battery life the whole machine is fairly cool.

Thanks everyone. I wonder if the R will have better heat dispensation than the T (due to more volume?)
I don't really mind much about the noise... heat is my most concern.

If you've ever had another warm palm laptop, the T61's heat is negligible by comparison.

Only after heavy HD usage -- virus scan, defrag, etc. -- does it get warm. I use my PC all day and barely ever notice the right palm heat. And I am the most neurotic of electronic owners.
