T61 Return - Still Possible?

Hi guys,

I have been traveling abroad (south Korea) and ordered a T61 a couple weeks back. Initially upon ordering, I was shocked to see an estimated ship date of August 15th, but didn't worry about it too much since I don't plan on returning stateside until mid August anyway.

After speaking with current students (i'm going to graduate school), I decided that having an ultra portable laptop would be a better choice for me - so I decided to cancel my order of the T61 and order an X61s. With an estimated ship date of mid August, I wasn't too worried about canceling my order ASAP, and I went on vacation to Thailand.

Well long short - they shipped it SUPER early, like end of June, BEFORE I was able to cancel. Since I knew I would be away, the ship address was to my father's office. Despite me telling my father NOT to open the box, he totally forgot I was sending a computer to him and DID open the box (I coudn't believe it!) because hedidn't know what it was.

Anyways - what are my options now??? The computer is brand new - hasn't even been turned on, but the tape "seal" is broken. Do i have to pay restocking fee???

 

If the seal is broken, then there is no way around it.

 

OMG, I'm fuming right now. My friend works in a nearby office - I should have sent it to him.

Is the warranty on these things transferrable? Anyone want to buy a brand new T series ?

 

What kind of warranty did you get?

if the plastic that seals the computer itself is broken, then you have a restocking fee. thats what my rep told me

If you are going after a X61s, don't worry about the restocking fee.

Give Lenovo a call, tell them exactly what you want: Return T61 and Buying a X61s

They will let you return the T61 without restocking fee as long as the X61s is 15% more expensive than the T61. Which might not be a issue at all depends on your configuration.

I know this for sure because I have been there, switching from a T60 to a X61 tablet.

Kemetho - thanks, I did just that and was able to avoid the restock fee. They didn't even seem to care if the next computer was 15% more expensive (it was).

Now I'm back to square 1 - waiting for this baby:
