I'd just like to point it out that the T61 seems like its the update to the Z6xx series. Seems like most people are wanting to compare it to other T series Thinkpads but there isn't any 14.1 widescreen T series. It seems like everyone gets excited since its labeled T because of the T60.

The Z61t has all the features of the T61(screen size, web cam) except for the titanium lid. And the T61 also has the same kind of battery cells as the Z series(4,6,7) and I would be surprised if you couldn't inter change them with the other Z series Thinkpads.

I can understand where Lenovo is going with their marketing since the screen sizes are close but I think they are trying to capitalize on the T60's reputation also. And it seems like its working.

It's a merging of the two lines, which is why the Z series is being discontinued. The T series has the good reputation, but the Z series has the more popular consumer, not necessarily business, options, like wide screen and webcam.

Indeed, if you read the parts book, the T61 uses the same type of LCD panels as the Z61t.

I just came across these 2 models (Z61t and T61) today.
Im only interested in the models that are available w/ a 1440x900 14.1" screen.

So, is the T61 the one to choose?

I think it's just that the Z series was Lenovo's widescreen experiment, and after they decided to offer widescreen laptops full-time, they added widescreen models to the R and T lines and closed up their Z-trial.
