Sometimes when I close the lid to put the computer to sleep, it doesn't go to sleep, and when I open it up, the screen is black and the computer is unresponsive. If I leave it, it eventually restarts. Does anyone else have this problem? How can it be solved? Thanks

are you using vista? i was having a similar problem when i was on vista. at first i thought it only happened when i closed the lid but apparently any form of standby while running on battery will cause the same thing. the appropriate lights would be on but the laptop is unresponsive and the screen is black. i never left the laptop on long enough after that so i dont know if it restarts after a while.

i don't have a fix for it :( but i noticed that it happened after i installed sp1 and even after i uninstalled it, i still have the same problem. i have a R61.

Yeah, I'm using Vista SP1. That sounds like the exact same problem. I've tried different configurations, but nothing seems to have any effect. It seems completely random. I can go many days without it happening, and then it'll happen several times in an hour. I'd really like to find a solution.

for me it happened every time i was on battery mode but it works fine when i'm running the laptop off the AC.

when i was googling for the problem, i thought it was the lid and disabled the drivers for the lid closing action thing in device managers but it didnt work :( i guess the only thing to do is to wait for a fix from microsoft for vista...

for me, i uninstalled vista and installed XP :D but thats only because i had an extra copy of xp lying around. i actually like vista (even though i only have 1 gig of ram) but not being to go into sleep mode while on battery is a pretty deal for me.

I've actually had it happen when I'm on AC as well. I don't know what that could mean. I tried messing with the power settings and the display drivers/settings, and that didn't seem to have any effect.

I've had this problem also. But after installing the latest BIOS from Lenovo I think it has went away.

hmm i never updated the bios, i just assumed that the bios was already updated to the newest version since the laptop is only a month old :D

i'd love to see if thats the problem but that would involve installing vista again, which probably means that i have to reinstall ubuntu as well.

Ok, I just flashed the new bios, and I'll see if it fixes the problem.

Well I did the bios update and it seemed to have fixed the problem for a while, but it's started again. I've had it happen several times in the last few days. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
